Our Girl Lacy

I just wanted to finally introduce our new little girl, Lacy, formally Gracie (we have a cat by that name). She just turned two years old in the beginning of this month.

While I've only had the opportunity to be owned by one Newf, so far, and I know they are smart, but Lacy has really proven herself to be a wonderul dog. We are still getting acquianted - testing the waters - but every day brings out another positive trait.

Kala's not 100% happy about the situation but she's getting better, slowly. Lacy is noisy when she plays and the first time they did try to play together, I think that scared Kala. So since then, there has been tolerance, but not much interaction. We've been trying to encourage them to play but I suppose they'll have to get to that point on their own terms. Lacy won't stop retrieving and thinks the house looks much better with stuffies scattered around in every room. She also found every floor register and knows it keeps her belly cool in hot weather -

Awww, what a pretty girl! And she sounds like a real character!!
The two dogs will come to terms on their own. Sometimes it takes a while. Give it a month or two and you'll probably start to see them laying together.
I'm assuming you adopted her from Rescue?

Well, I think the pups knew that today was the day to finally celebrate. Between the weather (it was so cool today that I actually opened all the windows AND took the pups for a short walk!), and the fact that we got a clean bill of health at the vet's office today (at first I thought she was walking funny), well, tonight they had their first rumble/tumble running around in the yard - not once, but twice! I am SOOOO glad that Kala finally opened up - it was so good to see my little girl back. Almost like they read my emotions and knew everything was okay...

And, on top of that, so far Lacy likes bananas, celery, cantaloupe, but is so-so about apples. She also spit out her fish pill this morning but ate it after I dropped it back inside her bowl. I'm really looking forward to all the "adventures" my new little girl is going to bring!

Awww, congratulations! It sounds as though everything is going to work out fine!!

Remember, two can do things together that one might never think of....so beware!

Aw, Kala's got a sister! And she's gorgeous to boot! Can't wait to meet her. Tell Kala not to worry, she's still Stoli's one and only!

Welcome Lacy!

Awww, Lacy's a pretty girl, congratulations!! Knowing how sweet Kala is, I didn't think it would take too long for them to become friends. A clean bill of health, your girls becoming friends...can it get any better?
Can't wait to meet her!

Could it be? You say Gracie was her name originally? Did you get her via River King Newf Club rescue?

I got this from a local area newf rescue friend of mine back on the 19th........

Good news! I think Gracie has a home. Plans are being finalized for the family to come and get her this week probably. They live in Channahon, Il (close to Joliet). They sound like a great home and their vet gave them rave reviews. I never count my chickens until but I think this is a 'go'. I am giving her a bath tonite to be ready!

If it is the same dog, Snuffles and I met the dog once back in January. Spent about 4 hours in a van going to a River King meeting, and I was sneaking her treats and petting her. We even tried to get her to poop in our yard since she went so long without but was kind of whiney on the trip home.

Edited to say I just got of the phone with the newf rescue lady, sure sounds like this is the same Newf! I just told her, I bet she will have a nice home! But now I am mad at you. You came down here, and never called to say hi

Yep, Leonard, that's her. And you'll get to see Lacy again at the GT! And you can't be too mad at me, we met in Bloomington. Almost where you are, but not quite...

Cool. I wonder if Lacy will remember Snuffles and myself. OK, forgiven on not visiting!
I think I did know about a Bloomington meet now that you mention it.

I really like Debbie, and did I did tell Debbie when I called, that if the way you come across on the Internet is the same you are in the real world, Lacy has a GREAT new forever home!

C'ya in 2 weeks!

Shucks, Leonard - thanks. Debbie just called to check up on us. We talked about you, hope your ears weren't burning too much! I like Debbie, too; I'm very glad that we've crossed paths.

Lacy's officially been here a week now. I truly cannot say one bad thing about Lacy and her temperment, brains, attitude, etc. etc. As of now, she acts like she was born and raised here. I think Lacy really likes the fact that her new sister helps Lacy get rid of some of the ants in her pants. Lacy is very active for a Newf and I love it. All we have to do is pass a few squirrel tests and then all my worries may be over...!

I met Debbie back in Sept of 2004 when I took a young 5 month old Snuffles to a pet event here. Someone Deb worked with is a neighbor of mine's SO. And he was with us. So we got introduced. I guess then we got reaquainted at the same pet event in Sept, 2006. She was one of my sponsor to joing River King too. I just got voted in at the last meeting in June.

I met Gracie back in January. I am not sure how long Debbie had her before then. Of course this whole dog rescue in general is new to me. But here maybe back in May I was surprised she still had not placed Gracie and asked her why. Not to be insulting or anything, I was wondering if she was real picky or what. I guess Debbie even ran newspaper ads in some of the local area papers and got some real bozos answering who had no business with any dog let alone a newf. I am glad to know Debbie does screen applicants well. I am sure it is a tough job and a labor or love. But I have to admit, I do wonder how one can let go of a rescue dog after being a part of of your life for so long.

How did you find out about Gracie being available??

Glad to read Lacy is settling in like she has been there her whole life. Maybe she enjoys the peace and quiet. I know Deb has at least 3 other dogs and some cats. I know Tigger her Landseer had been a bit of a trouble maker not all that long ago
