Orijen Dog Food

The "no puppy food" thing seems (to me anyhow) to be not quite so black and white...I found this thread to have some very fascinating information, specifically the information provided by Ginny and Sierra Newfs: http://www.newf.net/Forums/showthread.php?t=106094
Very interesting read thanks for sharing this ... my current food (Precise Holistic Large/Giant Breed Puppy) seems to fit the bill, which makes me feel better. So the important figures seem to be calorie density, calcium and calcium:phosphorus ratio.

Reality is I guess we're all looking for the safe feeding formula because the "right" answer may not be a specific brand especially since it may not be available in some regions when it comes to commercial kibble.

I think the debate will go on ... I know we're all trying our best to do what's best for the breed and to that there are no perfect answers just the guidelines and validation of our experiences when it comes to feeding, with that I don't think we can go wrong.

There are no perfect answers really.

I got Gracie at 8 weeks (horrors, how could I do that!!!!) and started raw diet at that age, going by the book Grow you Pup with Bones. She ate the raw until she was about 5 yr, she didn't grow fast, in fact she stopped growing and never weighed more the 100 lb and is only 24" tall.

I hadn't a clue how much protein, calcium and phosphorus she was having on the raw. But she was healthy.

Owain was the smallest in a litter of 8. At 10 weeks he started adult kibble, Protein 23%. Ca. 1.1%, PO4 1%.
He grew like a weed, is now at just 8 mth about 100 lb, and 27" tall.

I did feed Obie Orijen from day one and he did well. His growth was slow and steady. I did find that I had to carefully monitor the quantity in relation to the quality of his "poo." I kept running into conflicting information on the whole calcium/protein/etc question. In the end, I decided to stick with what seemed to be working. Now at 2 1/2 years.. he is a lovely lean 135 lbs and eats about 3 cups a day. The trick is finding what your dog works for your dog.

We feed large breed puppy Orijen to both the puppy and our adult Lab. We were having poo issues with the puppy too. Organic pumpkin did the trick immediately! Love the stuff. Luckily they do too. I can't tell you how many people remark at how shiny our Lab's coat is. :icon_bb: I can't wait for the puppy's adult coat to come in so she can be shiny too.
