These dogs are not Newfs and Newfoundlands may never achieve what they have but it sure gives us hope that we can do better than the maximum confirmed age for a Newf of 16 years.

World's Oldest Dogs - Pusuke and Bluey

Bluey was born on June 7, 1910 and died November 14, 1939. He was an Australian cattle dog owned by Les and Esma Hall of Rochester, Victoria, Australia, which, according to an anecdotal report, lived 29 years, 5 months and 7 days. Bluey holds the world record for the oldest dog, which has been verified by Guinness World Records. The great grandson of Bluey's owner, Clayton Fleming of Victoria, Australia possesses copies of the official letters from Guinness.

Bluey worked among sheep and cattle for 20 years, and survived until Nov. 14, 1939, when he was put down. He had lived on a diet of kangaroos and emus. He was the world's oldest dog, a record that has never been beaten.

Pusuke - The World's Oldest Living Dog

Guinness World Records has verified the age of what they say is the oldest living dog in the world. At 26 years (182 dog years) Pusuke is the new record holder. The mixed breed dog lives with owner Shigeo Nagai in Sakura, Tochigi Prefecture of Japan.

Vaccination records were used to confirm his date of birth in 1985. The spry elder canine still enjoys his role as guard dog, but nearly lost his shot at the Guinness record when he was struck by a car in 2008, rupturing a number of internal organs. Emergency surgery saved the 28 pound wonder dog.

Bucephalus told me he was going to shoot for 40 years. He tends to exaggerate, but I told him he was allowed to live that long if he wanted. :)

I remember back on Newf-L a long time ago, there was a story about a newf that was like 15 or 16. I kind of remember a book written about him too. Anybody's memory better than mine??

When I first heard about Henry living 17 years I was so very excited. Immediately I ordered the book written about him, Henry Forever: The Gift of Life. When my copy arrived I immediately started reading and in the Acknowledgements section I read "Henry's date of birth is stated as December 6, 1980. There is no longer any paperwork available to verify this."

Once again I had my hopes raised only to have them shattered by yet another unverifiable age claim for a Newfoundland.

I found on a German breeders homepage a female newfoundland Zotti vom Elsterufer who turned 16-years this year http://www.elsterufer.de/Aktuelles/Zotti16.htm

Zotti crossed the rainbow bridge two weeks after her 16-birthday http://www.elsterufer.de/Aktuelles/zotti_ist_tod.htm

I think this is Zotti on newfoundland dog database http://www.newfoundlanddog-database.net/det.php?num=0000001552

I know a lady who had a female newf Lollo (kennelname Hukkiharjun Loliitta) when she was a child who lived to 16 years and 2 months. This is Lollo's sister in newfoundland dog database http://www.newfoundlanddog-database.net/det.php?num=0000104544 (Lollo isn't in the database because she was a beloved pet and never bred and for older Finnish dogs there are only those who are bred in that database). Lollo's owner told me that she heard that Lollo was the oldest living newf in Scandinavia when she still lived.
