Newman and sympathy

OK, I've mentioned in the past that Newman has had TPLO's (extensive knee surgery...he can't pass through airport security) on both knees AND he has mild HD.

Well, this boy is TERRIFIED of hardwood and tile floors because he slips and (I thought) it makes him ache when he does this. I later find out that Newman is playing on my sympathy.

Rich caught him...heard something in the kitchen (hardwood floors) and crept up to investigate. There was Newman with his back legs spread for support...front legs on the stove!!! Hoping and searching for some left-over morsel of food from supper. There is no runner or mat in front of the stove, mind you. He is a thief and a rogue.

Just the other day, Rich finds him with his feet in one of the dining room chairs surfing for more to get into.

Scared of slipping, my behind. He wants ATTENTION

Annie,
Newman had a bad experience with a groomer and has been funny about going into buildings and such places since, but he is getting bolder now that his knees are fixed.

Everyday with Newman is a riot. There are always several sessions of chase because he has stolen something (anything he thinks you'll chase him for). Collins and Indy are angels compared to Newman. They never steal (I'm not saying they aren't involved in any way...I'm sure when we aren't home and Newman takes something, Collins and Indy are all in it...AFTER the fact).

Newman is just a spoiled-rotten brat. Since he has had alot going on (5 surgeries), I have babied him to death.

Before anyone says how wrong it is to let Newman get away with the things he does...let me assure you...he usually is "into": Socks (the white ones...no color for him), food (of course), paper and things like that. It is all a big game to him. He takes things, brings them to you to see if they are "chase worthy" and if they aren't he goes and gets something else until he finds something that means enough to you to make you get up and run. And I wouldn't want him any other way!

Kimber figured out a trick too. A while back she was on a medicine that was tough on her stomache. Sometimes she would make these gagging noises when it was bothering her. She no longer takes the medicine (like over a year or so) and we noticed when we are eating something particularly interesting (never for actual dogfood) to her she will make these gagging noises and then look hopefully at us. Just too smart.

Maggie is REALLY into being chased. She'll bring things to us, then turn to run. If we don't follow her, she'll sit and woof. If we STILL won't chase her, she's even tried to grab at us, then run. It's really hard not to find this hilarious, but I know that we should be teaching her NOT to run from us, or act like that with us. All the books say not to chase them, or let them run from us...but it's so darned cute how she wants us to be her playmates
