newfies' bonding to people by gender

Hi, I'm new to this board, so I apologize ahead of time if this topic's already been covered. In many of the dog breeds, males seem to bond with female humans more, and females seem to bond with male humans more. Does this tend to apply to newfies as well? I'd love to hear from you...and thanks very much!

I say no. Panda, a female won't leave my side. She does not even like to go bye bye or for walks without me along. Samantha is attached to Gary and Sara likes anyone that will pet her.

Hi, Geoff, and welcome to Newf Net!
My personal opinion (and I'm wrong often so have that salt handy) is that your Newfy, boy or girl, will bond to whomever spends the most time with him/her.

We've got an absolutely gorgeous 12 week old female Newfy "Nani" and I was afraid she'd bond to my husband. I, too, believed the myth of females bonding to males and vice versa.

I'm happy to say that she's glued to MY side! Yes! *high five* I only work 4 nights a week, only about 4-5 hours a shift. As you can see, I'm home quite often and spend most of my time with my little girl. She lays in the kitchen with me while I cook, she follows me from room to room as I vaccuum, she paws the door to the bathroom if I'm in there (I love her and all but for Pete's sake, I can't "go" if I have company!) She's my partner and we just do everything together. Because I'm home all the time. Daddy's not.

So there, Kepeli! *blowing raspberry*

Welcome,

However a correction. I won't MAKE you do anything, you have to be intelligent enough to WANT to.

I must agree with everyone else. Tayla loves whoever is giving her more attention at the time. Some days she won't leave my side then for the next couple it is like I am not even there.

SoloDancer (male) ADORES my husband. Leo (male - collie mix) prefers me (I move more
) Khiori (who passed away last March - female Golden mix) loved me most of all. I have no idea what the magic is. Maybe they prefer who is most like them?

Gary and I talked about this at lunch and we decided this:
Panda is attached to me--from day 1
Sara is maybe more attached to Gary
Sam is more attached to Gary because he tends to play rough with her and she likes it. She is more attached to me when it comes to petting and scratching. However we both agree that she is more attached to whoever has food.

Now, I am with the dogs 24/7 except when at the grocery store or church. Gary is gone from 5 a.m. to around 4 p.m. so the idea that it is who spends the most time with the dogs is bologna, but I cannot tell you why they get attached to someone and not the other. Maybe someone smart can do a study on it.

Jeannie I couldn't agree with you more on the food statement
It seems Kodi has split his affection right down the middle between myself and my husband. He knows he gets attention, belly rubs and lots of love from us both and returns it equally

I think it all has to do with whomever spends the most time with the dogs!!! And has the food. I am the big treat giver... and Cora tends to "hang" with me when I'm home.

When we got Sadie, we were told that she didn't like men. That is probably because she had more than likely been abused by a man. However, she bonded with Russell. Due to her physical problems, he was able to deal with her more than I. He was also stricter with her. I think she liked that. She loved being with him. The would talk to each other all the time. If you guys remember the wookie from the first Star Trek movie, well... they talked to each other, both sounding like a wookie!!!

Kira is happiest when we are both in the same room together. She will play contentedly with one of her toys. However, if I'm in the bedroom and Russell is in the den, then she is restless. She's just very needy, and wants her "people" with her, together, all the time.
