Hi can anyone recommend fabric the dog hair won't cling to so badly? My daughter is in junior showmanship with one of our girls, this is our first year. So we are learning. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :D

A tweed is great! Unfortunately women's and girl's clothes are primarily made without much in the way of pockets, which we need. Nor are skirts necessarily cut to permit the long stride required to show giant breed dogs! Pockets are key! Treats, slobber towels, comb or brush etc. have to go SOMEPLACE.
One error I made that I want to share so you don't do the same dumb thing I did: It was an outdoor show in S FL, miles west of the coast. (are you hot and sticky just reading this yet?). I selected a polished cotton (chintz type of fabric) short sleeve peplum jacket and skirt suit to wear. I figured between the short sleeves and the cotton fabric this would be comfy. This was all true HOWEVER: what i failed to consider was the jacket ( a good quality suit) had an acetate lining and it was the hottest thing I have ever worn! The lining doesn't "breathe" like the jacket itself does, and I might as well have worn a plastic garbage bag as an undershirt!
Another gal I know reccommends shoes which tie. She was showing outdoors one time, in rainy weather. Her slip on shoe got stuck in the mud, without her foot, and somehow, in the judges' kindness, he assisted her to get it back on, getting mud on his clean suit in the process! From then on, every time he'd see her at a show, he'd call her "Cinderella" with a big, warm smile.
Always wear a color to contrast with the dog. If, for example you are showing a black Newf, don't wear a black outfit.
The majot problem is getting pockets and a skirt you can move well in. The better thrift stores (such as a Jr. League Thrift Shop) are good places to shop. I have trouble, anyway, being a size 2!
Best of luck to you and your daughter. I hope this helps

Fabrics with a woven texture work best for us. The smooth surface fabrics can get static which makes the fur really stick. Try not to dress until shortly before ring time, and keep the corner of you drool towel damp. You can use that corner to remove signs of drool, dirt, crumbs, and brush off fur from your clothing.
Best of luck and remember to HAVE FUN!

I show in Juniors

I've had the best luck dressing shortly before ring time to keep my suit looking nice. That way, before and after ring time, normal (fur and drool approved) clothes are readily availabe.
You could invest in one of those sticky lint rollers and roll your daughter's suit before she goes in the ring to take care of any furs.

Have fun! :D

To Estatic: try and find a match or 2 to enter him in before you enter a show, and YES!!! Go to class!!!
to Kelly, where abouts in Fl are you? We will be at the Newf-FL water Fun Day on 10/28, as well as showing in Ocala 9/30 & 10/1. If you see a little old scrawny lady with a Newf or more, that's me! be sure and say, "Hi".

Ecstatc,
Check your local AKC club. They should have conformation classes. Is he neutered? If so he cannot show in conformation. If not how is he around other male Newfs? Newfs are wonderful great dogs but several males waiting to go in the ring can be interesting. He WILL also need to walk on a lead and stack. You will be hooked once you try showing. I know from experience.
