Hi everyone,
I am the new mother to a beautiful newf puppy and have some questions about her behaviour. I have been reading everything i can get my hands on about the breed. I did this research for the past two years and finally took the jump and bought one. We are going to ob. classes and she does great there. But sometimes she does somethings that i wonder about. She likes to bark and nip at my legs when we set off on walks. I didn't relize that my legs were that funny and she only does this to me. Also she gets naughtier as the day goes on. Can a puppy get over tired just like a child and than start being naughty? She is kenneled at night and sometimes during the day when we are off someweres that she can't come. Should i have a strict schedule for her to be kenneled? She is 14 weeks old now and is close to being house broke. I seem to think she is testing me as a leader. If any one has some advice for the new mom and dad please let me know. She is quite a character too. Yesterday when I was watering the flowers she straddled the bird bath and just layed there. Cute Cute Cute.
sincerely

Brenda I am a first time newfie owner, Jake is almost 5 months old and believe me he was after my legs, feet, and hands it has taken awhile to make him stop but he is about over it. I think if I had started really being stern from the start it would not of been so hard plus Jake is a bit on the stubborn side LOL. I am sure some of the more experienced club members here who are owned by their newfs can give you all kinds of tips or you can do a search in past posts. I know Jake was much worse about attacking legs and feet when I had on shoes that have laces, even now he will go after the laces and we are talking over 70lbs here LOL. But they are soooooo cute just don't let your pup forget who the alpha is in your house, well that is my 2 cents worth but really there are alot of good tips in the old posts. Welcome to the club there are a lot of great people here with lots of really good info. Take care.

Brenda,
I am a new Newf Mom as well. Brady is now 7 months old. I read every book I could get my hands on. Diane is absolutely right, read some of the prior posts they are very helpful. Brady always went after our pant legs and feet. Now at 7 months he has finally passed this phase and grown into another. Congratulations and welcome!

Hi Brenda! Welcome
We had a problem with Kodi as a puppy with the biting of hands, legs, pant legs etc. He only did it to me, never anyone else. It took awhile, but he's finally realized that I'm the alpha figure. Now at 14 months old he's a delight. A typical "goofy newfie"
Everyone on NewfNet is so helpful, so don't be afraid to ask questions.

Hi Brenda - I, too, am a new Newfie mom. Bear is 5 months old and, it must be a thing with these little buggers, because he thought everyone here was a chew toy !! It was kind of cute for my husband and I, but it turned out not to be so adoring with my 4-year-old daughter, especially when those teeth got nice and sharp. We are in our third week of obedience training and my instructor said always let them know beyond a shadow of a doubt that you are the boss. She told me to take a gentle, but firm hold of those cute little jowls and give him a stern no right in his face. He still does it occasionally, but is getting much, much better. We had him at the dog show all weekend and he was a perfect gentleman. I have learned so much here and I'm sure you will too. Everyone has been really nice and helpful. Welcome to the club !!

Hi Brenda, and welcome to the board! I too am a new newfie mom. My Rory just turned 6 mo. last week and is an absolute delight. I do not have the problem you are having, but I think you are on the right track about being consistent with the training. The obedience class and lots of repetition along with some maturity should bring positive results for your pup.
