New AKC Point Schedule

I'd really like to know whether they toss a coin, use voodoo, Tarot Cards, a Devining Rod, or what to come up with the numbers?????? This isn't helping create Majors in some areas. Not everyone can drive 1000 miles and enter 200 shows a year on the chance thier might be a major. Sheesh.

Illinois moved down in the numbers needing majors so you should be happy Ted! Ohio stayed the same which makes majors tough to pull. If you talk to people who've been showing they usually know which shows pull majors so just shoot for those shows if that's what you need.

Yes Katie, I saw the 3 Point went down, but persoanlly believe the 5 pt, is still too high (JMHO). The only shows I recall in the new Dividsion that had enough girls to get a 5 pt were the Northstar (MN) and North Central (IL) Regional Specialities, and they are not supposed to count regionals when determining the numbers. Personally I feel the 10/12 required for a 5 pt, is still too high for the shows from last year in the area that I either attended, or knew the breed counts. Jus sayin.

I think if you're going to be awarded a 5 point major you should have to beat a large number of dogs/bitches. It's an honor and moving the numbers down so that just any show is a 5 point major is not something I'd like to see happen. It's already not that difficult to finish a nice dog once you let it mature so moving down numbers doesn't help the breed IMHO. If you attend the larger shows you will find majors. Indianapolis was 4 points all days and 5 points a few and Louisville was 5 points every day and neither of those are regionals and are in the areas that have the highest numbers required for majors. I easily finished my dog without much travel and only staying in a hotel for one show so it can be done. Just have to pick and choose your shows and hope your dog looks good when they come around.
