This morning my Mom's spayed female GSD came over and Remi (is 2 and neutered) started sniffing her and then he frantically started humping the air. He couldn't even walk he was so bent over and stressed. I thought he was having a seizure at firt.

Please forgive me for being graphic, but I felt under him and he had 2 hard nut feeling things and his penis was hard in the shaft. He was whining and scared and humping the air.

I finally got him calmed down and fed him some ice cubes and walked him around and the hardness went away. He was scared and he has slept all afternoon. HE IS NEUTERED WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED!!!

I would say Remi had erection prior to being able to extend the penis and bulbus glandis out . When this happens u have to let him calm down.. what u felt was most likely the bulbus gladis. Kelvinn is neutered also but still gets erections. My guess is he still remembers the ``The sent of a Women``

Thanks guys! He has never done this before and if he was humping the dog I might not have gotten so scared. It looked like he was having some kind of a fit, I guess cause he was humping air and couldn't straighten up.

My husband is out of town with the kids so I called the vet, thank heavens they had just closed. I think they would have thought I'm an even bigger idiot than they already think I am.

My Mom bless her soul says"get on NN they'll know what he was doing"

Oh Darby! I hope Remi is ok now!
I know things can be scary.. especially when it comes to our Fur Kids! I have been through many panic attacks and situations with Varg, that I should go out and take stock in Lady Clairol! I do have to say that even tho it was scary to you then, I hope at least now you can sit back and have a chuckle about it! My husband was "neutered" 19 years ago, and he "still whines and humps the air." LOL.. take care.. we are thinking about you.... Marla and Varg

Ok....I don't feel so bad about what "I" did this week.....after hearing your story! :D

We had little Rocky groomed once this winter....because all we're really capable of doing is shaving him down....and I didn't want him to be cold. Anyway, when I went to pick him up the groomer told me that his "anal glands" were FULL! So...since then I've read about how to empty them...and tried...but no luck. So this week on TV I was flipping the channels and came across that guy that does "dirty" jobs across the country. It showed him expelling the anal glands on a dog. So....guess what? Yep...we emptied them! Ha! Each time there was a squirt...Robin and I both were screaming...EWWWW!
Guess there is a first time for everything!

I've seen that happen to Roger. He'll sniff a female and next thing I know his back is arched, like a cat, and he too is humping the air. Your right, the first time I thought he was having a seizure, but then when I saw it happen more I realized what it was. He does'nt get scared or nervous. He eventually stops and is back to normal.

Ok, now that I've managed to quit my snickering, I just want to say you are not at all an idiot.... but I am glad you didn't get a chance to call the vet. :D

Benson is neutered but has these kind of ahem.... dancing fits whenever he is around certain female types. One in particular is a cute little boxer that always brings this dance on. The first time this happened, it took a moment to realize it wasn't a seizure but that.... ah ...other thing! We could call the dance "Humping on Air".

Sue Lynn your story about the anual glands just cracks me up. We watch that program quite a bit but must have missed that one!

Sigh.

At least you didn't actually go INTO the vet clinic with Remi, thinking that he had a hernia or something because of the bulging glans . . . .

In my defense, it was RIGHT after Shiraz' neutering, and I thought it was a problem wtih the surgery.
