NCA New Title?? "Working Championship"

Annie Milliron

Alpha Goddess
Just got this in an email from Mary Lou Roberts... I have her permission to cross post it here:

In reading over some NCA Board communications today, I noticed that in November at the face-to-face meeting the Board discussed dropping the idea of a new title -- a "Working Championship" -- for lack of interest.

Apparently this had been mentioned in a back issue of Newf Tide and only three people responded with any interest.  If you are like me, I missed it completely.

The idea, as I understand it, would be to create a new title (something like "Working Champion" or "Working VN") to award to dogs that do NOT have their breed championships but DO have the CD, WRD, DD plus I think two other titles that can be from a list of advanced obedience, team draft, tracking, and agility.

I think this is an excellent idea and can't believe I missed it or that others are not interested in shaping such a title for those who love working their dogs but for any of a variety of reasons don't put breed championships on their dogs.  In my mind, the hard work of training and exhibiting Newfs in working events deserves encouragement and recognition.

I spoke with Jacqueline Brellochs today and she said that if there is, indeed, interest in the title, it can be revisited.

If you have thoughts on this (even if you don't plan to pursue the title yourself), would you please email Jacqueline at Pandaganewfs@aol.com as soon as possible and share your feelings about this.  I'd appreciate it if you would copy me on your reply as well.

I would hate to see this get dropped if there is indeed legitimate interest in it.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I would very much be interested in this. Think it's a great idea. Please check your PMs.

Annie,

I've thought for so long that this would be a wonderful thing for the NCA to do. I'm emailing Jacqueline tonight, and I hope many many more newf-netters will do the same. mj
