Daria at 11 has been on and off for quite a while. We had a patch a couple weeks ago where we were certain it was time to set her free. She has since rebounded once again and is her happy and sassy self. Thank goodness! My daughter has a tendency to get morose and focus on the negative. Daria had a particularly bad day recently and my daughter was lamenting that fact. I told her to focus on the fact that Daria was alive and still with us and while she may be going through a bad time now, she's not nearly ready to give up the ghost. Celebrate each moment we have with her and be thankful for that. Daria will no doubt go on her own terms. I have to laugh thinking she may even go as one of the longest living Newfoundlands. Who knows. This is Daria we are talking about......:alc:
Maia is 9 1/2. We took a long walk the other day as she so loves her walka walkas". She did pretty well but started petering out halfway through. She was much more brisk and energetic on our way back to the car:angel: I guess from now on she'll be my walking buddy instead of my exercise buddy. I'm one of those that if I don't do my workout first thing in the morning, it won't happen. With Mai's slowing down, I'll now get two walks in a day I'll do my thing right off and then she can have her walka walkas in the evening. Win win for everyone.
Faith is a little pokey and bitchier than normal at 9 but other than that, she's just fine. She has greyed more than anyone else.
Stormie is the one showing the most change. She's 10. She's always been the most "chill" of the bunch. Lives her days in the basement until the burst of energy hits her and then she's either outside playing or "supervising" the ones who are playing. Lately you can tell her hearing is going. And her cognitive function isn't the best:darn: The other day I was calling for the dogs to go potty outside. Everyone came but Stormie. I found her at the bottom of the stairs in her usual place. She was just sitting there but she was turned towards me so she could see I was talking to her but nothing was making sense. We often find her sitting in the yard looking out into space. SO not like her. I may try her on fish oil or coenzyme q10. Because of her food sensitivities, she cannot take the same stuff that works so well for Daria.
Who was the brainiac who thought it was great to get lots of young dogs all at once?? I do love having pups close in age as they are younger but I didn't think long term.....down the road. On the other hand, with so many Newfs passing at a young age these days, I'm thankful to have this...dilemma ..and thankful for each day I have with my beautiful girls.
