Hi Romona Anne.... Not that it makes a rats butt, but I am a Board Member at House Rabbit Connection, we are affiliated with House Rabbit Society. I have had rabbits all my life and have 2 of my own now, and have another 3 fosters here living with me. Please do nueter the boy. Even if you never have another rabbit with him there are many benefits. Longer life, better companionship, no male spraying, easier to litter box train, also he can have a rabbit friend with out worries of having babies. Rabbits are social animals so bonding him to a friend is great. Please search for an experienced Rabbit Savy Vet. A knowledgeable rabbit veterinarian can spay or neuter your rabbit with very little risk to a healthy rabbit. I have spayed and neutered my rabbits for at least the last 30 + years... Yea I listened to Bob Barker....LOL

Hi Georgia,

I do want to get him neutered...I know heart attacks are a risk factor...Still, I am going to have it done...I have a few other bills I need to pay first...I anticipate being able to have it done next month...

I love my little guy, and I do want to get some little friends for him...

My mom and I were recently at a baby shower and I said how I wanted to have a baby (I wouldn't until I was married and we were both ready for one, don't worry!!...) and she said "I'd rather you get another rabbit..."

So I might use that to my advantage later... ;)

I have a 32-oz water bottle and a self-feeder for him...If I do get a little bunny friend for him later, will that sill be enough for two rabbits?...

I don't see that it wouldn't, I just want to be certain...

Thanks for the input!...

Water bottle yes, but the self feeder I wouldn't. Bunnies have a habbit of getting over weight... ;o( Mine always have unlimited hay though. Are you planning on litter box training him? It is very easy, and wood pellets are very cheap! I put pellets in box and then cover it up with hay. They are really very clean animals. Mine have lots of baby toys.... Every day one of mine puts his toys in his empty food dish. As to say "HELLO" missing something here... When I go down stairs they stand up to greet me... Just like Rajah and Mac always wanting attention.....

I had my Flemish Giant neutered and it went well. We live in a very rural area, so I trusted my regular vet to do the procedure and she was able to do a good job with my big boy. It was definitely scary to leave him there, but I hope he will have a longer, healthier life now.

Oh...I got one of those automatic feeders because I was going to go house & dog sit for some friends and the automatic feeder was going to save me going back home every single day to feed him...

I usually take a handful or two of food and put in in there and just refill it when it gets low...He doesn't seem to over eat...At about 8 months old he weighed in at 2.8 lbs...They didn't say much about his weight except that it was good...

What kind of toys do you give them?...Judah LOVES toilet paper and paper towel rolls...He'll toss them around...and then eventually he eats them...I figure that can't hurt him too much...I see those cardboard boxes they sell with treats inside..Seems like the same kind of cardboard...I will probably get him some of those soon...right now he's working on one of those edible log things that's filled with seeds & corn & nuts...He likes that quite a bit...

I also got him some Yogies! yogurt chips...I can't believe the amount of sugar in those...They taste like white chocolate...everything on the container is also found in people food...So I tried one...I give him one a day...every few days I'll pop one in my mouth, too...I need to go buy myself some white chocolate, I think... ;)

Can I still litter box train him even at 8 months old?....(or odler after I neuter him...) And just how do you do that?...

He always goes in one corner of his cage...So I guess it might not be that hard to do?...

He really is an awesome little guy!... :)

Have a great day,
-Ramona Anne

I am certianly going to take Judah in when I can save up the money...

How big is your Flemish Giant?...

I have heard about Giant rabbits...but never have seen one...How big do they get?...

I'm also planning on getting a harness & leash for Judah so I can take him outside a lot in the summer time so he can enjoy fresh air, sunshine, and tasty clover and grass!!...Last summer I took him out when he was still little and dind't hop around too far or too fast...This summer I'll need to contain him with a leash, as I'm afraid he'd be too fast for me to catch if he got out...and we have lots of wildlife where I live in NH that would snatch him up as a tasty snack...I certainly don't want that to happen to my baby boy!!...

Have a great day,

I have heard of all kinds of "toys" for bunnehs, babies' plastic car keys are a big hit just make sure they are the hard plastic kind not the gel filled teething ring kind. Also stuffed animals, toilet paper rings, (sounds like he already loves those) even blankets are fun toys for bunnehs. Matilda Buns loves anything cardboard, I get her cardboard boxes and cut 2 holes at opposite ends and Matilda will "fix" it to her satisfaction.

She is a free range bunneh; sounds like she should be taking on the Wild West in the old days with the song Home on the Range playing as she watches tumbleweeds roll by. lol By that I just mean she is house broken and has the run of the house although we started with just a room at a time at a time until I was sure she was completely housebroken and she got used to the sounds, smells, cats, dog, kids, etc... Her favorite room is the library she loves books, chewing them, nomming, chinning them, her version of learning by osmosis I think. :)

Litter training is actually easier when they are older, when I was training Matilda I put her in one small room with a litter box in each corner because they like corners and will pick their own spot. Because she is a Flemish I actually use a clear plastic tote (w/o the lids obviously) that are about 2x5x4 with a layer of woodstove pellets (pine shavings can cause issues) $5.00 a 50lb bag at Tractor Supply covered with a layer of Timothy Hay, once she "picked" the one she liked, I removed the other 3 totes that weren't up to snuff. And yes she picked the most annoying corner as hers. lol Once in awhile she will kick out a "bunneh raisin or two" from her tote and hay gets scattered but she is a digger and the tote is not quite as high as I would like, but she is pretty big so regular bunneh litter pans are not big enough.

Flemish Giants can get quite big Matilda is 20lbs and not yet 1 year, I believe the average is 20-28lbs but of course it varies.

A lot of sugar isn't good for bunnehs, to much sugar is hard for them to process and can cause fat, bacteria, or gi stasis. Average for a 7 month to 1 year is to introduce timothy hay, grass hay, and oat hays, decrease alfalfa, decrease pellets to 1/2 cup per 6 lbs. body weight, increase daily vegetables gradually, fruit daily ration no more than 1 oz. to 2 oz. per 6 lbs. body weight (because of calories).

I fell for Matilda Buns "I'm starving to death to mommy please feed me, feed me, feed me, don't you love me mommy, look I'm wasting away to nothing" routine when I brought her home at first. Between calling the rescue in a panic and the fact she grew rolls practically overnight I figured her out pretty quick. You are lucky Judah is not such a little piggy!
