My 1 year old brat

Help! So Millie has always been stubborn and a bit of a bull head. She knows her commands and listens to most of them. The problem is when Millie does misbehave and gets reprimanded, she wags her tail, barks at me and runs away as if its a game. I know this clearly means she doesn't respect me and doesn't look to me as the "boss" but what do I do now? By no means do I want my dog to "fear" me, but she could care less when she gets yelled at or told no! Ugh!! I feel like such a bad mom!! :(

Ok so I know we're still new at this but would the nothing is free method help her to understand you are boss? Make her work for everything her food/treats/to go out etc. We haven't had this problem (yet!) but they have to sit/stay for every meal or bone or to meet new people etc. I know the more experienced people will have more advice but that has worked for us especially with having two bc if one misbehaves the other follows!

Hey Jessica, it's just a teenage bratty stage she's going through. Out smart her. I had a heck of a time with Zeke, doesn't last to long.

I cannot believe that sweet baby Millie does that!!!

But, in the event that she *might* act like that, NILF-go back to basic training, and be firm. You can use a firm voice without being mean to let her know you aren't fooling around. It's the dreaded teenage phase, trust me Maggie was terrible-this was when she started jumping on people and acting like she had no brains whatsoever.

Thor will bark back at me sometimes when I tell him no, but I grab his snout and get face level with him then tell him no again and he seems to get that I'm in charge. Now, this does not hurt him at all, but gets his attention. I often have to grab him so he will see I mean business, but it's mostly fur I grab and he doesn't whine or act hurt cause I don't apply any pressure. It's a brat stage I'm sure they will grow out of.

Well, Charlie, your post made me feel slightly better until I read Kristen's!! lol When will it stop?? I adore her, but she is such a B@%$&!! She does not care if I use a firm voice or if I am screaming at the top of my lungs, she looks at me directly in the face, wags her tail and barks at me, as if she is saying I can yell louder! UGH!!
The biggest issue... its hysterical and I have to do everything in my power not to laugh! haha! This is why I don't have children!! I would be the worlds worst mom!!! HAHAHA!

Jess, I think Carl and I will rival the Worst Parents Ever when that time comes. Elvis usually isn't too fiesty, but every once in awhile he gets in a mood and barks for no reason. One time he was in the middle of a trantrum and my husband gives up and goes "Fine! You want to bark? I'll give you something to bark about!" and goes into the kitchen where he makes a giant sandwich, pours a beer (Elvis' kryptonite) and then eats it in front of him. Elvis sat there for a minute then went to go pout his cage.

We also discovered last night that Elvis hates the piano app on the Ipad. If we hit a key or two when he's barking he immediately stops like "No! NO! Anything but that. I'll be good, I promise!!"

*I realize this may make us look like huge jerks, but I can assure everyone here that Elvis is well fed and very, very much loved

Well, I don't know if you'd care to share any particular areas you're frustrated with....but remember, I said it got better. I didn't say it went away! :tequila:

OMG.....my "Emma". I love her dearly but she is SO hard-headed and will test me constantly. But then there are those times where she sits by my side and lays her head in my lap and looks at me with those gorgeous topaz-colored eyes and my heart melts over and over again.

Off topic, but try the cat piano. ROFL! I got more of a reaction from Thor than our cat Zeus. hahaha:whistling:

HAHAHA! That is great Maggie! I should try that becasue that may be the only thing to get through that tough skull of hers! She knows her mama is a wimp and would never hurt her so sh is not threatened in the least!!! I could probably take out a stick and threaten her with it and she would be like ooh, Lets play! LOL!!!
PS> we all know I would never do such a thing!!

Oh and I am dowloading cat piano as I type this!!

Yes! That's just it. She is so loving and mushy at times. Smart as a dickens and probably the funniest pup I have ever met! These are they things that make me absolutely adore her. As for not listening, "come" is not out strongest command (to say it lightly) and if she into something, ex the cat food and I tell her no or try to get her away, she looks at me like I'm crazy and continues doing whatever it is that Millie wants!! Such a knucklehead!
