Murphy with the Dog Sitter

Yesterday was the first time we left Murphy all day at home without anyone there.. Hubby had a meeting on the mainland, and we decided to do some shopping while we were off-island. I would not dare trust anyone with Murphy except the animal control officer, which is a personal friend, and also works for hubby.. she came to the house 2 times while we were away, to let him out and walk him. She was amazed that he did not touch anything in the house, except to play with his toys and lay on the bed. She said he was a pleasure to take care of.
Of all the things that I seem to do that are opposite of what most people do with their Newfies, I felt proud
I took 6 months off from work to teach a baby newf how to be a part of our family, he has never been crated, he is potty trained, very well behaved at home and in public. I have spent 24/7 with this dog since we got him, and he and I together, have learned to read each other. Murphy is 5 1/2 months old now, and he amazes me, in how intellegent he is. I looked at him tonight while he was laying very contently next to his daddy on the couch in the living room, they both looked happy, and both like they would not want to be any other place than where they are. I may do things very diffrently than most Newfie owners, and I wouldn't change a thing that I have done with him. No Crates, raw meat, people food, and free run of the house. In all honesty, it was one of the hardest things I have ever done, it was night and day, everyday. It was harder than going to work to a real, paying job. Did it pay off?? You bet it did. I have one great newfie puppy that I am very proud of ;) ;) ;)

Congratulations Laurene!! It sounds like Murphy was a perfect little boy while you were away from home!!

And, it sounds like you've done everything right and are an excellent Newfie Mommy!!

I'm glad that he did well today.

However, this is far too on topic to be hiding down here in the basement. Look for it up in General. :D
