Milk thistle has anyone used?

I am considering using it for Rory(my shih tzu) due to his suspected liver shunt, he is still developing crystals but thankfully no further stones present in his last ultra sound scan on Friday- he is starting lactulose also and possibly low dose anti-biotics, he may also start allopurinol to try and keep the crystals down. He hates the hills UD food and so do I!! so I am trying him on a home made low purine diet at the moment but its all hit and miss trying to find the right balance He is well in himself apart from the crystals and stone developing, his liver is normal size but his bile acid tests are high, it was 400 on fasting
Anyways I have been reading good things about milk thistle and wonder if anyone has ever used it? as I really want to protect his body from toxins and liver damage, I will of course discuss with the vets too

Milk thistle is wonderful. Remeber though. It can hamper the effectivness of other drugs. For an example. In humans if a woman is on birth control and they start taking the thistle. Well the B. C. is not as effective and mommy can get pregnant!

Ebony got milk thistle and Sam-e after her last chemo treatment to help protect her liver. I think both supplements helped her.

When Cleo's liver started to fail I gave her Denosyl which is Sam-e, and Marin, both are through Nutramax Laboratories, inc. They also have Denamarin which is the 2 combined in 1.
