Meh! Did Orijen 6Fish make a formula change?

Bag design is different. Price went up, amt in bag went down, and size of kibble is smaller. Riggs is also protesting. Anyone? Anyone?

This is what I got awhile back:
Orijen Whole Prey
New in 2013 for Orijen is formulation, performance and packaging enhancements.
· 75-80% Meat Content: Fresh meat has been increased to 50%; first 10-15 ingredients from meat (previously top 5).
· 20-25% Fruits, Berries, Botanicals: Fresh and Regional (up to 90%)
· 0% Potato: Medium and High Glycemic Carbohydrates removed.
· Performance: Flavor - increased fresh meats, liver, and tripe. Stool - added fiber from fresh fruit & vegetables. Conditioning - reduced glycemic response from lentils & chickpeas.
· Package: new design, sizes are unified with Acana
More details, including pricing, will be shared in early 2013.
New Pricing - Effective January 15, 2013

Ingredient costs will remain a challenge for 2013, with Acana and Orijen ingredients increasing between 15-18% on average. Champion Pet Foods has announced a 7-9% consumer price increase and because strong margins are important to pet speciality retail partners, Acana and Orijen retail dollar margins are either maintained or strengthened for 2013.

It's not the "whole prey". I made sure of it when I got it. Ugh! I really hope that they didn't change anything. As it is the decreased kibble size (slight) is messing up my measurements. The retail store I got it from also informed me of the decreased amt in the bag and the increase in price.

Ok- so on the bag it says "freeze dried" wasn't it always freeze dried? Or is this what's different. Riggs inhaled some raw food tonight, so it's not his appetite...that was my little test. The punk.

No, that's the new product line freeze dried food. That was other part of what I received.

New Kitchens, New Category - Freeze Dried Food and Freeze Dried Treats (Available January 2013)
Champion Pet Foods is excited to announce the launch of their new Orijen Freeze Dried Food and Freeze Dried Treat lines. These products support and advance Champion's Biologically Appropriate, Fresh Regional Ingredients, Never Outsourced (BAFRINO) mandate with closer alignment to the "Whole Prey" feeding model.
Pricing, FAQ's, ISO and UPC Sheet for the Freeze Dried Food and Freeze Dried Treat products are attached.

Isn't that like medallions have to add water to reconstitute then feed?

Thats what I would think...I did notice when I put water in the food (which I've always done) The consistency changes. Becomes more mushy. And that's what Riggs does not like. It also makes it really difficult to mix any supplements in it. It just becomes a thick bowl of mush. I'm going to write to them. I had to pay 80 something dollars for a bag, and I am disappointed.

PS: Thanks for your help!

Is this what you have?
http://freezedry.orijen.ca/sites/default/files/orijen-freeze-dry-feeding-guide_0.pdf

I need to call Champion foods because this is the ONLY food Stormie can eat. I have absolutely no wiggle room with her. This is all she can have. I sure hope they're still offering the kibble variety in addition to this freeze dried stuff.

**I just scanned through their website and it does look like they're no longer offering the kibble. I'm going to my local feed store this morning and snagging all the 6 fish kibble they have on hand.

I'll post back after I talk with Champion

OK...here's the scoop. Meg, the gal I spoke with said the freeze dried food isn't on the market yet and you may have picked up a bag of freeze dried treats:shrug:

They are still offering the 6 fish kibble although it is being redisigned as well. They are cutting out potatoes and replacing them with lentils and chick peas. They are also adding new fruits and vegetables. The bag size was 29.7 and is now 28.6. Once suppliers run out of the old formula it will be replaced by the new stuff.

I am NOT happy about this. Stormie is doing phenomenal on the current 6 fish. She has more coat than she ever has. She looks fantastic. I'm so afraid of what this change may do to her. Hopefully there won't be a problem...

Last I heard they had a fire and went out of production ... snatched 2 big bags for dog & cats last year. Orka is on raw food so does not eat much kibble, only when he asks for it, still have an unopened bag. Cats have decided the Bench & Field from Trader Joe's is way better and balk when they get Orijen.

So no more rationing, Orijen is back in production? Anybody having digestive problems with the new formulas that are out? It sounds like they are being scientifically reasonable about the changes.

It's already too expensive.

That goes inline with info I got. I use Acana and that got redesigned too which i was not entirely happy about. But my group still seem to be doing good on Acana.
