matting under the collar

Any suggestions on how I can prevent the matting of hair under Brady's collar? My husband took his collar off the other day and the hair under his collar was matted. He loves his collar, wants it back on when we take it off. I still haven't gotten rid of all the mats. We can only do a little at a time. Poor guy, he is normally great when I brush him.

I think this was addressed a while ago, and I think Sarnewfie said to go with a rolled leather collar. Right Sarnewfie?

Yes a rolled leather collar will not cause matting as bad. You still need to comb under the collar on a regular basis. If the mats are real tight you may want to consider having them shaved. I never keep a collar on my girls except when we go for walks.

You are absolutely correct, there is no need for him to wear his collar unless he is on a leash. Even though I brush him all the time, under that collar is missed. So the collar is off and when I do put a collar on him, I will get the rolled leather.

Where would one find a rolled leather collar? Ain't one to be found in northern Ontario, at the moment james has a check chain which is only on for walks But I can almost see a line at the neck area.
