Maine Trip - roof top cargo bag & beach access?

Hi all,

We are going on our first trip to Maine at the end of June (Rockland) and after moving from a Honda Element to a Pilot, we now think we need a roof top cargo bag so we don't have to ship everything ahead of time! We have the roof rack and cross bars but are torn on the type of cargo bag.

Any experience with the "Keeper Waterproof bag" or Sherpak Go 15 or Thule 867 Tahoe bag?

Lastly, can you go on beaches in Maine with your dog(s)? so that they can go in the water?

Thanks for your feedback!

It will depend on the beach. Some will not allow at all during the summer, some will have certain hours, like before 9am and after 8pm. Not sure if any are full access all the time. I don't know about that area - you might have to search online. Sounds like a fun trip-have a great time!

We have a hard sided one that goes on the Pilot and the Forester. The Pilot could take 2 or a much much bigger one. I think we got it at Campmore when we lived in NJ. REI also has good prices and coupo s sometimes.

No idea on the beaches but I like my Pilot too!

Have a great trip!

We have done the whole coast of maine camping with Newfs, it is tons of fun. There are so many beaches that dogs can be on from campground beaches to hiking trail beaches. The dogs swam everyday. We kind of found them as we went along.

You will defiantly need a car topper, if nothing else to keep the dogs and food separated :whistling:. We have the long thin Thule and it worked great, opens from both sides, can even fit skis in the winter. I can't imagine traveling with dogs without it.
