Macy has taught Jack......

TOLERANCE!!! Jack had been an only dog for over 3 years. He liked life as an only son. He got first dibs on everything, didn't have to share his treats, had plenty of quiet, alone time. The slime on his toys was HIS slime. Then came Laddie, my mother-in-law's collie. Jack is easy, mellow, content lying on the floor most of the day. Laddie is high strung, full of energy, and content speding the day pacing...and pacing...and pacing. I swear that dog never sits. My in-laws do a good bit of traveling, and we will sit him when they go. Jack and Laddie have a love-hate relationship...Laddie loves (too much if you get my drift) and Jack hates...hates being looked at or touched by Laddie. If Laddie came within a foot of Jack, he'd bark and move to get away from him. Sitting Laddie caused so much chaos, I said I could never get another dog. I couldn't put Jack through that.

Then came Macy, well...I should say then came SueM! She conviced me that Macy would be the perfect second dog. And boy was she right! Now I know why they say to listen to your elders!! Macy is like Jack...she is easy, mellow, content being quiet. It took a few weeks, but finally, Macy can touch Jack without chaos ensuing. They often lay together now, touching even! But the real test came this weekend. Laddie spent the weekend with us. I was terrified. Knowing how chaotic things were with Jack and Laddie, I shuddered to think what a third dog would add. This weekend was a PLEASURE!!! Macy has a new boyfriend. Macy and Laddie played SO WELL together. And because Laddie had Macy...he let Jack alone for the most part. Who would have guessed that Laddie and 2 dogs would be so much easier than Laddie and 1 dog. And the proudest moment, was when Laddie laid down next to Jack and touched him...and Jack didn't move, didn't bark, just let him touch. And when Laddie tried to *Love* Jack a few times, Jack didn't go ballistic. And for this, I have Macy to thank (and SueM)!!!

Sorry guys...I didn't get any pics of Macy and Laddie. They were never still enough together to get a shot. I got one of Jack and Laddie...I'll post it later.

This is great news. It really can wear you out coping with diverse dog personalitites, but it sounds like everyone is happy here! It's nice to read these success stories! Yes, pictures of all are in order!
