Long time...

Been extremely busy in the real world as of late and haven't had time to stop in and say "hi" or even do much lurking for that matter.

Just wanted to say hello to everyone and hope you and yours are doing great.

They opened a shop here by us now similar to what Jeannie had mentioned some time ago, a you-bathe-em kind of deal. We took Matilda in over the weekend (they recommend Sunday afternoons for Newfies just because of the amount of time required to bathe and groom etc.)

The one thing they did have in the shop, and I know it's been discussed more than a few times here, are high velocity dryers. Maybe I was just a skeptic when I read the original posts, but what an AMAZING difference the dryer makes!!!!

I was impressed, the wife was impressed and I think even Matilda was impressed.

Best regards to all,

Mike

I just found out that our town has one of those dogwashes. They supply the tub, grooming table, towels, dryers, etc...all we bring is the dog and $16. Can't wait to try it out.

I just found out the same. It is a new doggie daycare and dog wash. I haven't been there yet though.

ours is a little primative, I suppose. A couple raised bath tubs, with roll away steps. A coin operated hose, that also dispenses shampoo, (if you are not fussy about what kind) and a blower. However, I was able to bath and dry both Gideon and Skittles for $12. And I wasn't sweeping newfie hair off my bathroom walls when we were done.
It is an extension of the car wash, I think it is something that any carwash place could easily add, if encouraged often enough.

We have one of those, too, but you have to bring your own shampoo. They only provide the tub/water/dryer.

Still, it beats trying to get them in the tub at home (hard on back).

That sounds great! The vet has a hydrobath you can use for free, but a dryer to use would be fantastic!!! I'd be more than happy to pay $10 or whatever to go down and use good facilities to bathe my own dog!

I think there should be more facilities like this. We have one here too. I have never used it but have been told, they don't have grooming tables. You have to dry them in the tub or the floor???? Silly, they are not that expensive, but then again they would need different sizes for different breeds. Oh well.

There's one that I know of in the MPLS-St Paul area - Metro Pet Spa in Roseville offers self-service baths. In fact, I bought a high-velocity dryer after using theirs - it made me a believer! They also have hydraulic grooming tables - a real plus for newf-sized dogs.
Some of the Petco/Petsmart grooming shops have self-service baths too, but I don't think their facilities are as convenient.
