Life Jackets for Newfs

Does anyone here who has a boat put a life jacket on their newf? If so, from where did you purchase the item? My husband ordered an XL life jacket for Jordan from "Paws Aboard" (I think that's the name on the jacket at least), and Jordan looked like he was in a straight jacket....couldn't or wouldn't move, and I could see his shoulders were quite constrained.

In some instances I think the jacket probably isn't necessary, but we will be out on the ocean.

Rafe has a vest, very reasonable from Pet Edge, but I actually use a ski belt on him. It helps hold up his rear so he swims as I found he was walking on the bottom with his hind legs and splashing with his front. The belt is non restrictive and gives me peace of mind too that he wont drown....Can Newfies drown?? Dont know but I'm and overprotective mommy I guess!

You definately need to read the thread called, "A Horrible Fright....." . I posted it a week ago, and it was the most harrowing experience of my life. Please, definately get the life jacket and use it! You NEVER know what's going to happen!!

I also have the Ruffwear K9 Float Coat. I checked several and this one fits newfies the best. It is long enough to keep their back level. It costs more than the others but the fit is superb and I believe a properly fitted life jacket is just as important for the dogs as it is for humans.

Thank you for your responses I will definitelylook into these. For Tina "Kali's mom" my heart stopped beating as I read your account. Thank the Lord that the two of you are okay.
