hi to all newfie owners..

just a reminder that this weekend, sat and sun oct 4 & 5, cumberland and
ohio valley, their friends and all newfie owners are invited to help
celebrate the bicentennial of lewis and clark's exploration of the west,
they will be landing in big bone park in union ky....and what better way
then to help celebrate then by having lots and lots of newfs there to
not only greet lewis and clark, but as we all know the most important
member of the crew, seaman!!!.. wouldn't seaman be proud to see all of
the newfs gathered there to greet him....

we would like a large turnout for this event..as not only will your dogs
and you have a good time and educate others about our wonderful breed,
but just think..how many times does one get to relive a piece of our
breed's contribution to history???
this doesnt happen very often.. heck, maybe you and your newf could have

their picture taken with lewis, clark and seaman!!!

we will have a booth setup for both days and need newfs and owners there

from 11-6 each day...

saturday night after the event there will be a party for all those who
would like to attend.. there will be saturday night will be
kareoke..party for the friends of big bone....music, kareoke and fun
campfire singing and good company, beer $2, soda for volunteers on me. .

on sunday, covnc will hold a very special club meeting at 1:30PM...we
have some very interesting news to share with everyone and we are hoping
that ALL club members will show up ....we will meet at the area by where
the newfie booth will be set up..

directions to big bone are I75 South Towards Florence take us 42
/Florence exit turn right west onto KY 338 pass Big Bone State Park will

be on your left side

Turn left onto Boat Dock Road KY 1925 Big Bone Landing is at the end of
Boat Dock Road

we need volunteers to work both days..
.it will be a fun day for both owners and their newfs - esp the newfs,
think of all of the attention they will be getting not to mention the
hugs and kisses!!!

please email or call me if you can help out...
sooooooo pleassssssssse lets try to get together ..it has been a while
since we have had a meeting...and YES we are still alive out there, we
just need YOU to prove it...if you know of any other newfie friends
please invite them too....
this event and meeting is open to all newfies and their owners!!!

We can probably come down on Sunday for a while. Saturday is already taken up (in Warsaw interestingly enough, the next stop on the L&C tour) but I think we can be there on Sunday with a couple of Newfs.

Sounds fun... we may be picking up another rescue, but if not, maybe we can come down......

Gee.... Sailor would make a cool Seaman, if he didn't have so much white on him!!!! LOL!

Debby,

My email is on the sign in sheet that was passed around. Email me and I'll get you the pictures that Colleen took.

It was a good time down there today. Probably a dozen or so newfs and a few hundred people interested in them (and everything else going on). The new Sailor (the one going on the L&C recreation) was even signing/pawing his new book that just came out.

hi greg
i am soo glad that you and your family came and joined us today..
after you left we meet another newf and his family that live out in the florence area,... the dogs name is fudgy...and he went around to the schools in the boone county area promoting this event...
.we just got home a bit ago and i am too tired to type much more...i will post in the next day or so how the event went .
i know that all who came had a great time and yes, seaman was there and yes we were able to get his autograph (paw print) in the book lewis and clark and me....darling puppy he is...i think he was amazed at all of 'his own kind' there!!!

i think he was amazed at all of 'his own kind' there!!!
Actually when he first showed up with TYS ;) the look on his face was pure terror "AAAAAGH, I'm supposed to be the biggest one around  . Who are all these creatures  ?" He kept trying to hide behind TYS but eventually calmed down enough to be included in the group photo. He was however much more gracious down at the book signing :D .

actually, when he came over to the tent yesturday to meet our group he was very friendly and outgoing with all of the newfs there...he wanted to play with them...he was more than willing to have a group photo with all of the dogs yesturday ..also yesturday when we took the dogs down to the boat he came over the plank and onto shore to our group and went to our dogs with his tail wagging and again he wanted to play with our dogs.....today he was more reserved with everyone than he was yesturday.... maybe he had an off day today...
noo. i dont think he was terrified..i think that when he came to the tent today he was more crowded in at first by both newfs and their owner then yesturday...i think this crowding may have had him more weary than when he was in yesturday..
i also know that yesturday he had more 'down time' from the crowds then he did today...the crowd there today was bigger than yesturday... maybe this was the part of the problem...and yet all must remember, even though he is seaman, he still is a puppy....

I'm not sure.

I did find out though that he was sold to "Lewis" in Pittsburgh a month or so ago for $20. The exact same amount that the original Lewis paid for his newf 200 years ago.

Greg (
sob
- can I pay in todays dollars the same amount that my ancestors paid for their land 200 years ago too?)

BTW, TYS was actually the GGGG grand nephew of Lewis (I think I got all the "G's" right). Quite a well grounded young man. What an experience he is going to have.

hi
yes he was from denali kennels...but capt lewis did not know the pedigree on this puppy...i am not sure how a kennel or breeder was picked...all we were told was that he was 'bought' by captain lewis at the age of 10 mts for $20 as they were re-enacting the entire journey and all the went on with it....the youngest crew member whos name was jonathan, was also very attached to the dog...when seaman wasnt with capt lewis he was with this crewmember...he had to admidt to me that he will miss the dog very much when this trip was over with.....
i do know that he was a very nice looking 11 mt old puppy.. very typy head for his age...very very nice dog.....

I met Uno (seamen) when I went to pick up Kylie...he was a very sweet boy...extremely friendly and beautiful...Sue told us that she "sold" him to the Lewis and Clark people did know it was for only $20. maybe I should have asked for Kylie at that price :D
