Leaky male???

Oh dear,we had a female Newf that had a leaky bladdar. She was on meds. for a most of her life.

Brief history -- Samuel -- 9 month old male that was neutered a month ago. Recovered very nicely.

NOW -- today Samuel was laying on the bed just looking out the window I went over to pet him and looked and he was laying in pee. It was fresh so he had just done it. He hadn't been there for more that 4 to 5 minutes. I couldn't believe it. He didn't have the "whoops" look. So I don't think he knew?!? I thought if they did pee or poop they wouldn't lay in their own.

Does anyone out there know if there is some sort of problem a MALE can develop after neutering that would cause them to leak???

The reason we got a male was so we wouldn't have that type of problem again...I'm keeping a very close eye on him. He seems normal -- runs and plays, eats just fine, does his business outside (except that once today).

Any info would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

I would probably take a urine sample in to my vet, just to rule out a UTI. Other possible reasons could be a behavioral issue called submissive peeing. Was he in a submissive position (lying on his back, or on stomach with his head down) when you went to pat him? Although I think it's more common in girls, I think boys can have this problem too. I'm sure others on here can add more to this.

Good luck! I hope you get your leaky boy plugged up soon.

i would also rule out kidney problems or have a test run to make sure that he has all the proper tubes connected correctly from the kidney to bladder, it is a simple dye test where the dye shows up on xray, i also would make sure it is not a pituitary gland problem,
xrays to make sure the kidney is fully developed.
we went thru a horrible time with our dobie pup he would be laying in a puddle of pee, constant peeing drinking, dilute urine with no concentration led to xrays showing les than twenty percent of his kidneys.

Males can definately be submissive pee-ers.

We had a male chihuahua/pomeranian mix that was my grandmothers.

When we came home we had to go through the back door so he could go right out. We would pet him and he would pee. Then he'd run to the next person and they would pet and he would pee. Eventually he would run out of pee. Then he was safe to let back in.

It was a game for us kids...poor guy...

I've not heard of an "after the fact" problem with a male, but, I would imagine it is quite possible.

Maybe, he was just so INTENT on whatever he was looking at that he got too relaxed? I'll bet he felt bad when he realized it? I HOPE he felt bad, 'cause at least then he'd known he'd done it.

Poor guy!

Personally, I'd let this 1st one slide by, but...anymore and off to the vet he'd go.

Giddyuppy -- I think you are right on the money!

Actually something was swollen...it was the door he uses to tell me he has to go out! I didn't realize he couldn't get it open until after supper last night. I AM SUCH A DORK!!! Poor guy couldn't tell me so I suppose he had held it long enough and there it went!!!

He always uses the back screen door that goes into the porch -- it slams when closed and that is the way he tells me he has to go. Well the door had swollen and he couldn't push it open. After supper I watched as he went over to it and tried and it wouldn't open for him. THEN the light went off in my head...

Still watched close last night and NOTHING. So now I don't let the door shut completely so he can push it open.

Live and learn...

Thanks anyway everyone for your input. Atleast I got some education IF anything like that were to happen...

Awww ... poor Samuel. Poor you ... I can imagine what a fright that must have been with everything you went through with Taylor!

So glad it was just a door malfunction!
