Joint supplements

My 7 yr old Newf was just diagnosed with severe arthritis in his elbows. I want to do everything I can for him but am getting confused on supplements, etc. My Vet put him on an anti-inflammatory (Novox) and wants to switch him to Galaprant. I know these types of meds are hard on their liver/kidneys. He is much more comfortable and back to his happy self so I don't doubt their effectiveness, just worried about long term side effects. I now have him on Dasequin and Hyaluronic Acid as supplements. For food he has always been on Hills Metabolic and Mobility with a freeze dried raw diet added in (he can't get enough of that stuff!) Now I am reading about Microlactin. So much out there and not sure what to choose. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

I swear by Microlactin. It worked better for my newfs than any other supplement. I was able to take them off all Nsaids. Give it a try to see if it works for your boy!

Thank you. Do you just do the Microlactin or do you also give products like Dasequin?

I gave Microlactin to one female who lived to be 14 3/4, I had forgotten all about that till you mentioned Microlactin.

Thank you so much. I am checking with my Vet to make sure there is no problem with him taking it. I would love to think I could have my buddy around for many more years.

I only gave the Microlactin. There should be no problem giving it since it is a natural supplement.

Thanks so much. Once again my Vet says it won't work but it's ok if I want to try. I think a lot of Vets only trust prescription meds. But so many Newf owners are suggesting Microlactin that I think it's worth a try.

I think you are right. Vets really do not recommend supplements. Give it a try as you have nothing to lose. Hope it helps.

I found out about Micolactin after one of my local vets kept giving it to many of my customers. (I use to own a boarding/grooming facility) Some vets are happy to try supplements while others don't. IMO if my vet didn't agree with a natural supplement I'd be looking for another vet. There are too many safer alternatives to prescription meds to not at least try them. The bottom line is the vet is not making money when you purchase a natural supplement.
