Thanks to all for the warm welcome. I've been lurking hear for about 7-8 months, and I decide its about time I went ahead and jumped on in. Our family decided to add a dog tour home about two years ago. After lots of research, we fell in love with Newfies(of course)! We got info from the NCA, read a million topics on here :)and basically did a ton of research. We started to talking to breeders, looking for that special one. We were having trouble finding a breeder close to us (FL) that we liked, and started questioning our decision and ability to have a Newf as our first four legged member of the family. After much deliberation my wife and I decided although we love Newfs, and one day want one, that it wouldn't be fair to the Newf, and us to take on that much responsibility as a first time dog owner. So, we went back to searching, fell in love with Golden Retrievers, found a breeder in town we love with great pedigrees and love for her GR's and reserved a puppy. We'll be getting our little Golden on Feb 15th, but we're already planning on when he can have a Newfie playmate!! I think instead of going the puppy route we'll look for a young adult/possibly rescue Newf when the time comes. Sorry for the long post, although I don't yet own a Newfie, I still love everything about them, and want to learn as much as I can, because one day I am determined to be OWNED BY A NEWFIE!!!!

Thanks for the time and the warm welcome!!

I have a Golden and 2 Newfs and the Golden, now 7yrs old, after having had a hip replacement 2 yrs ago, reverted to puppyhood when the Newf puppy came along. I think he was depressed for quite some time after the surgery. Now he is back to his old self and I believe it has alot to do with Meg, the puppy. She has been the best puppy I have ever had, a real sweetheart. He used to pick on Meg, but now Meg picks on him as she is much bigger than him now. They really have bonded, they play together for hours and sleep next to each other. A Newf would make an excellent companion for your Golden as they are both wonderful breeds.

Welcome Shelton. We have 2 newfs (ages 14 months and 5 months). But our older newf, Brady has a best friend, Riley she is a 3 year old Golden. They play so well together. She often puts him in his place, which is a very good thing. Tim, our baby has not played with Riley as yet, but I know they will get along.
