Incontinence follow up with a Herbal Remedy...

Hi,

I had posted back in October that my 3 year old Newf "Timber" appeared to be suffering from urinary incontinence. Our vet recommended a few drug options DES and PPA (when I posted my question I think I had got the same advice) but I decided to pursue 2 other options: acupuncture and a herbal infusion. After 3 treatments of the acupuncture the Vet said we were finished. Timber's incontinence was noticeably less but she still had "some" pee leaking especially in the mornings. I wasn't sure if it was the acupuncture or the fact that I was putting her outside for 10x more bathroom breaks. I think it did help some but there was still room for improvement.

Next I contacted a Herbologist and she gave me this simple recipe:

Combine equal parts of Oatstraw, Plantain, Corn Silk, Nettle Root and Horsetail. Make an infusion and feed 1 tsp/20 pounds twice daily. Can be used long term though after 6 months I should be able to wean her off of it. Then feed only for a few months every year to fortify her system.

So, it's been just over 2 months using the herbal infusion and Timber has only had 2 very minor pee pee leaks. No leaks in the last 2 weeks! I am now only giving her the infusion once a day with her dinner.

2005 was an awful year for Timber as she had this wicked rash that wouldn't go away. We evetually figured out it was being caused by her being soaked with urine. I'm not a big fan of drugs for myself or for my Newf but this rash was so bad it took 12 weeks of antibiotics (over 3 separate occasions) to clear it up. I didn't want to put her on anymore drugs to clear up the incontinence so I went natural first. Lets hope this herbal remedy continues to work...

Thanks to everyone who responded to my original post, it helped to know I wasn't alone in this.

I'll be sure to update her progress in another 2 months....

thanks everyone,

Marina
