I am Perplexed

Maybe fellow newfy lovers can help shed light on my dilemma. Jordan, who just turned 7, was diagnosed with severe bilateral hip dysplasia and arthritis last summer. Up until the diagnosis, Jordan did not show many of the symptoms associated with this condition. We discovered it because I started hearing a popping sound in his right hip whenever he trotted. (It seemed that after the diagnosis we started having more issues). Funny how that is. Anyways, when he is laying around the house he's flat out like a rug, calm and relaxed. He goes up and down the stairs without a hitch. When we go outside for a walk, we haven't gone 2 minutes and he starts to pant. Still shows tremendous interest in everything, still wants to chase the kids on the skateboards. Still likes to run around and chase his ball and the cat. I know that when he's in the car he's calm, but once we get to our location he starts to pant, and it doesn't stop from there. I have had blood tests and chest xrays done, normal. Had him on Deramaxx, then switched to Rimadyl. Panting really didn't subside much. I have him on holistic arthritic products which I believe help the hips stay loose. His appetite is great.

So my dilemma is this. Just how much pain could Jordan be in? Is he that stoic? Or am I dealing with a bit of a nervous excitement? What am I missing?
