How do I get my puppy to stop...

sniffing the butts and crotches of humans!!!:nono:

She's a pretty obedient puppy. We've been incredibly successful in house training & keeping her off of the furniture and beds. She never bites. She sits, stays, knows "no" and LOVES all of the praise that she gets daily.

BUT!! She is a chronic sniffer of the nether regions! I got a little self conscious :shrug:, but luckily, she does it to everyone . It was pretty embarrassing this last weekend when we had house guests.

We tell her "no" and move her face... but back in she goes!

Any advice is welcome!!!

To her, she is being polite! LOL I would just keep correcting her, try getting her to sit, instead?
Treats worked here. Just, eventually, she realized there were different rules for people vs. dogs. Now at 13 mos, she never sniffs butts or crotches. We were just consistent.

How old is your puppy?

Boaz did this excessively. All the correction/redirection in the world did not deter him. Once he was snipped, it stopped completely. :blush:

She's just 8 months. Getting her to sit is a great idea!! I'll start immediately. But, knowing this stubborn girl, she'll sniff my butt then sit with her head tilted like "Did you see that mom, I sniffed, then sat!" LOL!!!

This morning I left her and she chewed my favorite bra to shreds. When I walked in the door, she was waiting with it, eagerly trying to give it to me as if to say "Look, ma, do ya see. Do ya see what I did. It's sooooo pretty now!"

Gandolph and Greta Rose do it to everyone....i thought it was a Pyrs right of passage....lol. One time they hit a friend from both ends..........THAT was sooooo embarrassing. Answers I have none....just figure it this way, its a great conversation piece.....LMAO!!!!!

Sydney.. My big ole LardButt Sydney does it. he's 37 at he shoulder and he can shove his big ole schnozz right in your rear when you least expect it... Talk about an extra large goose!:crazy:

When Nanook was a puppy and had freedom of the house he did that too. The destruction o' the bras. I think it was one of the pieces of clothing that smelled most like me, and he needed the comfort of tearing my smell to pieces while I was gone.

For similar reasons, Pooka sucks on my fuzzy slippers if I leave them out where he can get at them. He doesn't chew them. He SUCKS on them. Which is almost worse than chewing. Because there are few visible signs that he's done it, most of which I am not conscious of last thing at night or first thing in the morning, and I will put my foot into the slipper and it will SQUELCH. Ugh. Ugh with bells on. It's a hideous experience.

Oh! And Pooka was a sniffer too. We just taught Pooka to "go get a toy!" whenever we had guests. (Because not only would he sniff, but he'd do it at speed - which meant he would gallop towards guests and RAM them in the crotch with his snout.) So now whenever a car pulls down the driveway he runs to his toy box and gets something soft to show off to our guests. Stopped the sniffing, stopped the ramming.

I just read this to the family and they erupted with laughter! Super loud thunderous laughter! Pooka is hilarious!

Super yuck on the squelchy slippers, but it is oh so sweet
