My friend, G, is having her back surgery...HOORAY...and I am getting a much needed doggie "fix" by entertaining two of her pooches while she is recuperating. Meet Addy (Newf) and Brym (mini Aussie).

That's right Jeannie! Say...tell me where the off switch is on this Aussie. LOL My right arm is doubled in size from throwing the ball all day.

If you find one let me know. Emi broke her toe about 5 weeks ago so she has not been able to play and burn her energy. At first we had to take all the balls away. She was relentless on putting them in our laps to throw them. Then we started tossing them softly so she didn't go crazy trying to get it. Went to get a final x-ray last Monday. Vet says it is healed but prefer her to stay quiet for another 7-10 days. (Oh joy) Today we let her play in the little yard with another Aussie. Taking her back to agility training tonight but no jumping. We need to work on weave poles anyway. Here is a link to her playing with the other Aussie. Emi is the blue merle. This is after they had played a few minutes so both where a bit tired.

Waiting with some trepidation for tomorrow. Will have still another dog here to contend with AND I am hosting our knitting circle in the evening.

Brym is going through a typical phase for adolescent Aussies which has him overly protective and in almost constant guarding mode. It's off-putting to a degree. He is not fond of strangers at all. Charges at them, barking aggressively. Don't know why he took a shine to me, but unfortunately, I am, after only a day, one of his flock and he MUST PROTECT ME and keep me in his sights! Or so he thinks. We've had the conversation about who's the boss. hahahah

But he is so well trained that he responds instantly to verbal commands. I can't ever emphasize how great it is to have good solid training on a dog. And this is exactly the kind of circumstance when you need and appreciate it the most. Not so much in the obedience ring as in real life situations when you HAVE to have the dog obey.

Murphy, who comes to stay every two weeks, has some resource guarding issues and doesn't always like other dogs, since he has been attacked three times. Tends to growl and snap initially, and likes to eyeball the other dog. But once Murph understands that the other dog isn't going to harm him, he's much more relaxed. He and Spirit got along perfectly, but then I have Spirit to thank for that. I sure miss his calming influence right now.

Addy is the only one I can completely trust. Why? Because she is the epitome of Newfness. Sweet, kind, completely tolerant of rude little dogs and loves everyone. Makes me appreciate the breed even more than I already do. So glad I got into Newfs long ago. They've never let me down and always make me proud to be associated with them.

So anyway, we (Murphy's mom and I) did a trial run today with the three of them and it went much, much better than I had anticipated. Not perfect, but definitely doable for one person. Will have to keep my radar going tomorrow, though. Need to have some eyes transplanted to the back of my head. <smile> Have crates set-up in the event of any naughtiness. But I have lots of confidence.

I think this will be good for all the dogs involved and I'm prepared to control the environment, but it will exhaust me I'm sure...LOL

Cross your paws and wish us luck.

Just watched your video, Jeannie. I sure wish I had your set-up and I wish I could trust Murphy, but he was never socialized with other dogs and is now old and cranky. I'd be over the moon if they could play and have fun. Maybe someday. Brym and Addy wrestle all the time, but I don't think Murphy will understand the fun to be had.

We have a mini-Aussie next door. Definitely something I don't want to take on. She loves us when we're in her yard, but on the other side of her fence and you must die. She's tried to bite Daisy through the fence enough times that Daisy won't go near the fence to sniff noses with any of the dogs there, and the other two just don't understand why, because all our dogs before have always loved them (they're rat terrier and a Pom). The Pom is still looking for Moonlight, who she loved and who loved her, even though Moonlight crossed the bridge a year and a half ago.

We had such a good time yesterday and ALL the dogs were perfect together during the day and almost perfect at our knitting circle last night. I am SO proud of them, because I know they worked really hard to behave nicely.
