HELP!!

OK, here is my dilemma:

Rich and I have 3 vaccums in the house. The newest one is not even a yr old yet and NONE of them can keep up with the hair that we get from our 3 boys!

I had to take our bag-less one apart 2 days ago to clean out the 10lbs of hair that had clogged the internal hose! And I just can't see me cleaning the inside of a vaccum every week just so I can get up the hair....I might as well take the time to pick up every strand of hair by hand.

Does anyone out there have a super-duty vaccum that can withstand the shedding of 3 newfs? I'll probably have to have a vaccum sale (to get rid of ALL my other ones) to raise money for a new one.

Thanks guys!

Years ago, I got a Fantom, after reading it's praises on Newf L. The company is now out of business, and I'm not surprised, as I was very very disappointed.

So, I'm also in the market for a vaccum...

In the mean time, I can share a hit. We've found that if we "rake" the carpet first, before vacumming, that the hair doesn't clog up so badly. No matter what though, it's a lot of work...

OK, now I reveal the tool-man in me...

We have a 6 HP craftsman shop vac that delivers pure unabated suction.

Just bought slightly smaller shop vac for the house. ( about $60 )

Probably will buy a third for upstairs. They are cheap, strong, and can be used to wet-vac a mistake if needed. A bit messy to clean, but they get the job done quickly.

Have a carpet beater/upright also, use them all in combination. ( well, somebody here does )

The latest and greatest "hot" vacuum cleaner taking newf-L by storm, is the Dyson DC07 Animal. NOT cheap. I just bought one on ebay, and it came damaged, so I'm returning it and just ordering the damn thing full price from the Dyson Company.

I've heard nothing but marvelous marvelous marvelous things about this vacuum cleaner.

Ive had the purple animal Dyson since the summer and am very happy with it. Great suction..but the hair does wound around the roller brush :( With 4 shedding dogs, I have to vaccum every day and cut the hair of the roller about once a week. I also try to get most of the hair off the carpet with the rake first..but it still manages to get around the roller.

This seems to be the perfect place for this bit of trivia. When I heard it I literally burst out laughing - it seemed so bizare. Did you realize that a large percentage of the population doesn't change the bag in their vac less than every six months???? LOL. I have to change mine every time I vacuum. (about once a week)

I'll probably go back to using a shopvac and then the other windtunnel we have. It's a pain in the butt to keep cutting all the hair off the round brush part.

I am on my second vacuum in a years. I have to take it apart every other time I use it. It is one of those bagless things which I have to empty every time. I am looking too.

Oh Rachel!
I thought it was just my new vaccuum! That it had "tiny" bags. So it's not just me! I KNOW I change bags every other time I use it. Plus de-hairing the roller. My daughter & I have long hair, so it's a weekly job!. We have a Hoover Wind Tunnel, and it's alright...
We also keep a shop vac in the house, like N2N family above. It's a monster! And a lot of times I use that on the carpets & tile. We always use it after grooming.

We really have been wondering about that DYSON. I too had a fantom and it didn't last long. Plus you had to get parts from the dang factory. ugh! Then we had 3 others. Yuk! Finally I took my mom's 12hp shop vac which is wet/dry. This works the best and the 300lbs of newf tumbleweeds get picked up ok. I also use a home invention of a broom handle with the wire dog brush on the end to do the heavy carpet areas.

On the day my Dyson was delivered, I thought about it all day at work. I was so excited. Then, when I was putting it together (first thing when I got home from work, mind you -- the dogs were totally ignored;)and I found that the one piece was dented and bent, I cried. I really really cried.
I am in arguments right now with the people that sold me the vacuum on ebay. It was unused, and quite frankly - it came with the box sealed and looked absolutely and completely pristine and unused. However, it has this small defect. Argh!

I'll let you know when my new one comes and how it works! mj

I've heard great things about Dysons. And they look great too!

My poor mum does the floors and she rakes first. Works well but is hard work!

I went through vacuum cleaners every couple of years till the Miele came to my house. Even then I had to cut the fur off the roller, so whined to the Miele man and he swapped the power head for a Sebo power head, it's impossible for fur to get to the rollers now :D I vacuum every single day :( , have 3 Newfs and a Lab and it works really well for me.
If I were looking for another right now I'd check out that Dyson (assuming they are available in Canada) as so many Newf-l people are raving about them.

Hmmm ... A quick call to Dyson reveals that due to overwhelming demand, the DC07 Animal is temporarily out of stock. Rumor is that a certain dog show grabbed 'em all.
