Here's the story we have an above ground pool...I would love the dogs to in this year...willing to get steps and everything..DH thinks it an awful idea and that the dogs will ruin the liner and clog up the filter...I am even willing to get them life jacket so the won't flail....maybe nail coverings....I am looking for suggestions Rich will listen too...help my babies need to swim!

As long as you keep the dogs nails clipped they should be okay. The first life jacket I got off of the PetSmart website for $29.99 + shipping. I ordered another one off of Ebay yesterday for $24.99 + $9.99 for shipping. (Same as PS's shipping) Exact same jacket and was brand new and a buy it now. As far as the sides you just need to keep them on a lead until they learn to stay away from them. I definately recommend the resin table idea, (I plan on looking at Walmart for one today) weighted and put in the middle for a resting area. As far as their fur, after they get out just go around the pool with your net and scoop it out. It floats and is very easy to pick out before it can become a problem.
Hope this helps! :D

Don't know too much about above ground pools, but I can give a couple of hints on the dog hair. First, you will use a little more chlorine with dogs in the pool regularly. Second, you must have some sort of filter system. If you have a basket type, you can get liners to go in the basket and the liner will catch the dog hair. It does float, but large amounts will sink and form balls in the bottom of the pool which are easy to dip out. I had three in my pool yesterday. It's not a big deal. If you can find a way for yours to get out, I would certainly try it. We've had a pool for 16 years with Newfs in it for 6, and have never had a problem with the liners. {{{knock on wood}}}
You will have to get in and leash them. Show them how to get in and out and keep them away from the sides, except where they do get in and out. They will catch on quickly.
