Hi Guys
Have been posting recently about 7 weeks old puppy which opened up a whole load of debate.

I have now had a breeder recommended to me who has an 18 week old girl for sale. The reason for this sale is that she shows dogs and simply doesn't need this many. This girl has been shown I think but she has 7 dogs of show standard and simply doesn't need that many.

The hip scores and heart tests are good.

The breeder says at this age I still have a blank slate.

She lives with kids and other dogs in the breeder's house.

HOw does this sound?

We are going to see her in the morning!!!

18 weeks or 18 mos? I find it hard to believe an 18-week-old pup would have been shown already.

I adopted Ben at 14 weeks. He was such a baby still that it was like getting a younger pup. No problems except that he was (is) a crazy maniac dog!!

Lou,

I think this sounds better than the breeder letting a 7wk old go. We got Macy a few weeks ago, and she was about 18 wks too. I think it is a good age! She doesn't need to go out nearly as much as a 7-8 wk old pup does and she is really learning the ropes quickly. If the 18wk old you are looking at has been living in the house she is probably well on her way to being housebroken! SHe has had lots of socialization. When you say hip and heart tests were good, I'm assuming you mean the parents of the pup. That is always a good thing.

I got my beloved Lolly-pup at that age. Age wise, you didn't miss much and she'll bond and potty train quickly!

I missed posts containing "contraversy" but I would avoid a breeder who offers to send a pup home that early. Bad form.

OH... and don't feel forced to make a decision quickly. A good breeder wants the best home for a pup... not the quickest. They should allow you time to ponder.

Good luck

18 weeks she is.

OOhhh...you are getting me all excited now.
Gary is going at 8.30 in the morning then we are still going to see the other litter in the evening. That way we get to see both extremes.

If we lose both by not putting a deposit down then we just wait for the next suitable one.

The 18 week old has had 3 sets of vaccinations instead of the normal 2 cos a litter of collies died down the road. Do you think this is ok?

Cheers

Here is a picture of her

link removed... posting any Breeder links is a violation of Newf Net Rules.

Seem like decent breeders...any thoughts?

Loobylou..I say go for it!!! We just got a pup at 20 weeks old a few weeks ago and couldn't be happier. He is still very much a young pup..and so much fun. Like Secret, he was raised in the house ...used to kids and dogs and as an added bonus arrived housebroken. What could be better than that!
My other newf pups were 10 weeks when they arrived and this guy is so easy in comparison. A total joy!! He was also with her adult dogs and has learned alot from them. He is so gentle playing with my adult newfs and seems to know if they have had enough. I'm glad he learned this already, because Hunter is so kind and never will growl or bite a pup...to teach them manners and therefore used to get tormented by our past pup.
Secret looks like a beautiful pup..and so do her parents.
Good luck!!!
Let us kmow what you decide.
