They're Home!!
A very anti-climactic tow into Tiverton NS from the Canadian Coast Guard marked the end of their trip.
I picked them up on Saturday. They are very tanned, and quite thin compared to when they left.
I spent Sunday looking through all of the digital pictures Mom took on the journey. I really need to take the time to drive down along the US Atlantic Coast. The pictures were just beautiful!
They started out at a boatyard in Clewiston, Fla, and followed the inland waterways all along the coast past the Carolinas.
I guess sailing with very little money brings blessings and experiences you would never find otherwise. Mom said that by not pulling into every marina along the way, they met people that they never would have met otherwise. In one city, they were even approached by a man that was involved in animal rescue. He was going around to the boats with a little terrier type dog, asking if anyone needed a "boat dog". Mom wasn't in a position to take the little guy, but she loved to listen to the man's stories about animals that had been saved from being PTS by families and couples out cruising.
I will try and guide Mom through the process of getting her pictures online, and post a link as soon as I can. It's funny, now I can look at the location of some NN'ers and get a mental picture of where they are in the world.
That is kind of nice.
Thank you all for the well wishes and prayers. My worries were really unfounded I guess. They never lost sight of shore, and even got some free meals from fishermen (I think around the Carolinas) who were going to throw out their "bait"...turned out to be 3" long shrimp..2 buckets full.
Oh and 1 Newf sighting on the trip. One family had a Newf boat dog. They said his legs were too short for him to be a show dog, but that made for Terrific sea legs.
A trip of a lifetime for my parents. Dad is 63 years old and said he felt sad when they reached the shore, because he knew that would be the end of his great adventure. I'm just glad they got the chance to do it and make it home safe.
