Heard from Sailing Family

Feeling a little better. I was worrying about my son and parents who are sailing a boat they bought on ebay from Florida to Nova Scotia.

They were in Georgetown South Carolina when they called on Monday night. I guess it will be a while longer before they get home. Prayers for ODAAT and her crew.

If they are are at Georgetown Marina, they are in good hands ... Good marina and good people... I had my boat in Georgetown for 4 months last summer ... (My family is at Myrtle Beach...)

We sailed up the east coast from there to Baltimore. Very nice trip.

Thanks for the update ... I was wondering how that was going! I'd love to hear more updates as their trip progresses. I'm envious!

Mom called on Monday night. They had some bad weather, and spent two nights in Atlantic City. She said "the Donald" wasn't available for drinks....smartypants.....I was getting worried again. Anyway, they made their way to New Jersey, and were leaving Tuesday morning. Where should they end up next? I have to go look it up I guess, but since progress seems to be so slow, I could just go state by state...

A friend of theirs is sailing down from Nova Scotia to meet them in Bar Harbour (I think).

Only a couple of more weeks by my guess!

Glad to hear they're making their way without TOO much excitement. They are getting into some pretty spectacular places now so I hope they saved some film.

Your son will be quite the sailor by the end of this trip!

Hurray! The ETA for them to get home is a week or maybe a little more.

When they called last night they were in South Boston. They are getting very tired, and are worried about the jump over to Nova Scotia from the US. They plan to visit Gloucester, and then sail up along the coast to Bar Harbour, then all the way up maybe even to Grand Manaan, a little island off New Brunswick before jumping over to Digby NS. I will sail with them from Digby to Yarmouth, and around to Shelburne.

So if you're in Coastal Maine and see a ratty little e-bay boat called the ODAAT, that is them.
(I say ratty because I've never seen it...this whole time, I've worried because I have been picturing something right out of Kon-Tiki)

They would enjoy a shout hello if some weird coincidence found a NN'er nearby.

The wait for this trip to be over has really brought her name new meaning....

This trip sounds like quite an adventure. Glad to hear everyone is doing fine. We will continue to keep them in our prayers!

I've been following this along, and am quite enchanted by their adventure. I hope they have pictures... and if so, you can post some here!

There are a couple NN'rs in Maine... it would be so cool if they could shout hello to them as they sail by!

They're Home!!

A very anti-climactic tow into Tiverton NS from the Canadian Coast Guard marked the end of their trip.

I picked them up on Saturday. They are very tanned, and quite thin compared to when they left.

I spent Sunday looking through all of the digital pictures Mom took on the journey. I really need to take the time to drive down along the US Atlantic Coast. The pictures were just beautiful!

They started out at a boatyard in Clewiston, Fla, and followed the inland waterways all along the coast past the Carolinas.

I guess sailing with very little money brings blessings and experiences you would never find otherwise. Mom said that by not pulling into every marina along the way, they met people that they never would have met otherwise. In one city, they were even approached by a man that was involved in animal rescue. He was going around to the boats with a little terrier type dog, asking if anyone needed a "boat dog". Mom wasn't in a position to take the little guy, but she loved to listen to the man's stories about animals that had been saved from being PTS by families and couples out cruising.

I will try and guide Mom through the process of getting her pictures online, and post a link as soon as I can. It's funny, now I can look at the location of some NN'ers and get a mental picture of where they are in the world.
That is kind of nice.

Thank you all for the well wishes and prayers. My worries were really unfounded I guess. They never lost sight of shore, and even got some free meals from fishermen (I think around the Carolinas) who were going to throw out their "bait"...turned out to be 3" long shrimp..2 buckets full.

Oh and 1 Newf sighting on the trip. One family had a Newf boat dog. They said his legs were too short for him to be a show dog, but that made for Terrific sea legs. :D

A trip of a lifetime for my parents. Dad is 63 years old and said he felt sad when they reached the shore, because he knew that would be the end of his great adventure. I'm just glad they got the chance to do it and make it home safe.

Wow! I am so glad they got home safely. I, too have been following this grand adventure.

3" shrimp bait? Oooooooooooooooo yumm!!!

I can't wait to see all the pictures. The closest I got to sailing the East coast was in the Navy in drydock LOL Then the ship was decommissioned when it was found to not be seaworthy after all that time being repaired. (Of course they found this out when it was tested IN the water ugh)

They are so lucky to have had such a time in their life and something they will always remember.

I can understand your father's sadness at the trip being over. I'm green with envy! Glad all your "people" are happy and home safe and sound!

Glad to hear they made it safely (bummer about the tow, though). Tell your dad not to worry, I'm sure they'll have plenty more adventures on the boat in the future. It is what you make of it, you know!

Looking forward to seeing some photos and hearing more about their continued adventures!

Yeah Glad they are home safe and I am soooooo jealous of their adventure. I almost did a "delivery" on one of the Maine Schooners that heads to the carribbean in the off season ( for Maine) and I passed it up. Boy have I regretted that! Yes! Pictures please, I would love to see them.

What a fantastic adventure they must have had!

(Waiting had to have been crazy for you.)

I hope you will post a set of pictures ( many ! ).

Isn't it great to know that lots of people out there are just plain nice.

Let all the rest of 'em follow the cash.
