Has anyone heard of pet hub? www.pethub.com
It's a type of id tag for your pet that has a QR code lasered on to it. If someone finds your dog, they can scan the code with their smartphone and pull up whatever information you choose to list. The basic package is free when you buy the tag for $13 but they also have one for a yearly fee that will use gps and email you if someone scanned the tag and let you know the area they were in. It seemed like a really good idea because you can list any health information or medications.

QR codes are neat, and if it's found by someone with a smart phone they could identify the dog instantly. Literally. QR codes can also send a text, email, and so on. Cool stuff!

That is pretty interesting...kinda like a micro chip, but without inserting anything. How cool!

Only downside is if the dog slips it's collar, or is out without it. Microchips are harder to lose...although, our vet placed chips in Maggie and Lucy (when they were pups) and when he checked the chips a few months later, could not find them. Literally x-rayed Maggie, from one end to the other (at his own expense) and could not find her chip. Placed new ones for free, in both girls, and those never "disappeared".

You are 100% right. Last night I was thinking about this, but thought it's not as safe when they can lose it. I could see having this and a micro though.

Lucy already has a chip but I was really thinking about getting this for her collar. If someone comes across a dog, most will at least check for a tag but many may not take the time to take this dog somewhere to get it scanned. They may just walk away. With this tag, they are actually able to scan it themselves and get your contact information. More people may decide to do the right thing if it doesn't require very much work on their part.
