hair loss?

I had posted before beacause my Newfy was showing aggression toward our neighbors dog and some of you suggested a thyroid test. At the time my vet didn't think it was necessary. However, he has begun shedding profusely. He just seems to be losing clumps of hair. I've been told this is the end of summer shedding but this is worse than anything I've ever seen with either of my Newfs. Can anyone tell me if they've experienced this and if it could be part of a thyroid problem?
Thanks

My vet said the same thing about my newf. "She doesn't have low thyroid so there is no need to run the test". I insisted the test be run and sent to Michigan. About a week later her called me and said "I'll be darned if that dog is not low thyroid".

Do what your gut tells you to do. If you want the test run your vet should run it. (Have it sent to Michigan) No questions asked. It is your money and your dog.
