Hair loss-my afghan hound

I have looked through all the posts on hair loss, but didn't find anything that sounded like what my afghan hound is experiencing, but have to give you brilliant dog-people a shot--

In December, I noticed a patch of hair missing right over the hip area. The hair loss is progressing. Thyroid is fine. She just had a skin biopsy, and they think it's hormone-related. They want to do an ultrasound to see if there are any problems with her adrenals. If not, then it may be her pituatary gland.

She has been normal in every other way--no itching or scratching, normal eating/drinking/activity level.

Thoughts?

I don't know what age your afghan is, but it is normal and necessary for the standard to loose all hair down the back. The will have a slick "saddle". On some you have to pluck it out. They should have it all gone by one year at the most.. Surely you knew that. and this is something different....??? Julie

Yes, defnitely something different. She's six years old and the hair loss is starting down the sides of her flanks. Thanks anyway!

what is her diet? sometimes dietary needs change as they get older, are there other affy people you can talk to for advice?
Is she spayed?
