Do Newfs actually get their hair trimmed? If so how often do you take them to the groomer?

I trim my girl's hair myself. Usually about every two months or so...

I havent trimmed any "coats" but I do their feet and ears (I'm still kinda learning how but when you mess it up they dont care and in a few weeks you can try again!!) I figure on the coats that with all the hair I brush out of them brushing a min. of 3 times a week they prob. dont need trimmed. I did recently trim up JoJo's leg feathers cuz she was getting so much snow packed in them it was taking her hours to melt & defrost. By that time she wanted out to play again!!!

Yes you should trim the coat. If you don't it will grow really really long. A newf is really easy to trim. I usually trim feet and ears about every 2-3 weeks to keep them looking nice. The complete coat gets trimmed every 4-5 weeks for Sara but Panda and Sam grow slower and get cut every 6 weeks.

I have never trimmed the coat yet either. What all do you trim? I think Kaysie's feathering on her legs need trimmed but I wasn't sure if I should trim them or not. Do you trim the tail also?

Thanks,
Heather

I never never trim the tail. To trim the coat I just try to neaten it up some. I usually take a "slice" of hair in my fingers, comb it and trim off the stragely ends. Usually on my girls I trim off about 1/2 inch, but I have done Newfs that have never had their coat trimmed and I have taken off 4-6 inches.

My old newfs usually get haircuts with a #5 blade, they are much more comfy.
i dont know that my emmett will need it.
if you want, this is easier than scissor cutting, get yourself a NICE clipper, either the oster or the andis professional clipper, get a #30 blade, than get some snap on combs, #2 or #1 1/2 snap on comb, you can sculpt your newfs, getting long scraggly off of them and neaten up the hinder area much easier than scissor cutting.

i shave out my newfs feet, go in between the toes.
shape brushing against the lay of the hair using a curved shears.

I have never cut tuggs coat either , doesnt seem to need anything yet axcept maybe around the bottom of his ears. And to be honest im glad because i know not the first thing about this. But i need to learn so where do i start? i was recomended by breeder to use miller forge "7" shears which i know nothing about Bridget

If you trim the coat with scissors do you use thinning shears or regular straight cut scissors?

I have tried getting them used to the sound of the clippers cuz I thought clippers would be easier for some of the foot trimming JoJo''s ok with them Maggie is still kinda skiddish. But coming along!!

Yesterday was grooming day, we did the whole shebang!! Brushing, bath, brushing again, feet, ear, & nail trimming, and tooth brushing!!
what a process on 3 dogs!! They cat stayed clear lest we forget and toss her in the tub too!!
