grooming product

Just wondering if anyone else has the problem of their Newfie being afraid of their grooming product. I just purchased a spray product that helps with the conditioning and grooming of their coat. Ben absolutely hates it because it is a spray. I have put it down and let him smell it, paw at it, to get him used to it, but still when I go to pick it up he wants to leave the room. Any suggestions? On his coat where I have managed to use it, it works great, leaves his coat very shiny and very easy to comb through. I am thinking of looking for a product that is a cream you have to work into the coat, any ideas. My Breeder mentioned using horse products on his coat, as that is what she uses for her Newfies. Products by Straight Arrow. Does anyone else use horse grooming products?

You need to introduce him to the sound of the spray bottle. But do try to get the quietest spray bottle you can find. Introduce the spray sound by filling it with water (or any spray bottle), spray it ONCE into the air away from him all the while praising him and as soon as you spray give a treat. Your dog will soon associate the sound of the spray with a treat. Since he is already afraid of it this may take some time, but it will work. Make it a game. Incorporate the spray bottle into you daily routine and play time. I would not use a cream because it will be too heavy in the hair and may cause skin problems.

As far as using horse products on my dog..being a former professional Arabian Horse trainer, I have used some. Mostly a product called show sheen. I try to avoid any products that it silicone based.
