Grooming paws

I've been playing with Satchel's paws to get him used to the sensation, etc. I noticed the hair between his pads is longish?? Looks like in a few weeks it will be covering his pads when he walks. Does this get trimmed or is it normal?
I was told all I would need is a slicker brush for now but it sure seems like I'm not getting anywhere with it except to make him look pretty and poofy on the surface. Any suggestions?
TIA,
Juli

I usually trim the hairs on the bottom of their feet more or less flush with their pads. In the winter slush will build up on the hairs creating ice cubes on the bottom of their feet.

[edited because I realized upon rereading that ice/slush generally doesn't appear in the 90 degree summer that we have been having. "especially" was edited out of between winter and slush

Thanks Greg!
Lol about the slush and snow. We don't see much of it here in sunny So Cal.....altho if we can find a pet friendly hotel in Tahoe he may see a little action on the snowboards this year
