Green Tripe - the perfect food?

Have been feeding green tripe mix to all my dogs for past month and I love it. Not much smell - no need for extra supplements - skin allergies all gone - coats are beautiful - and best of all - poop output cut by 2/3. I can now walk on my grass again and don't have to shovel ....twice a day.

I really think this is the perfect diet. No need to mix other stuff into it. The dogs love it (and keeping the cats away hasn't been easy either). Sammy had almost permanent rashes on his belly and they are gone. There's nothing here to be allergic to. The cow gulletts and trachea that are in the mix are natural sources of condroiten. Has all the omegas you need. Only possible supplement - C.

She ships all over the country. Check it out. Greentripe.com. I am so over kibble! And Chopping vegitables! And making up messy mixes! And spending a fortune on supplements! My vets use this for their great danes and the woman who owns the company raises large breed show dogs.

I would love to know the "secret" formulation that removes the smell. That stuff gags me.

Good for you! I love to feed tripe whenever I can get it. Is this home made food or a retail tripe mix? I have been making my Newf's food for 3 years as I find it cheaper than the retail raw diet packs. I know what you mean about the glorious coat. I never tire of hearing the compliments I hear about my Newf...

I would love to hear your whole diet. I am always interested in what works well for other's with their Newfs.

I use green tripe too, but I'd be interested to know how it could possibly NOT smell? If you cut open a fresh cow, that stuff smells! Unless the stuff is deoderized? But, I agree that it's a wonderful addition to their diet although not a full Omega-3 source.

Go to www.greentripe.com and check it out. It is mixed with other stuff and it truly not smell bad. It has the perfect balance of everything - including Omega-3. I feed each Newf 5 pounds a day split into 2 feedings. The general rule is 1 pound of green tripe for each cup of kibble you use. But that can be modified up or down. They have a formulation for more active dogs as well. Everyone has to decide for themselves. But I think that the best nutrients are the ones you get naturally - not through powders, pills, etc.

Hi,
Are the cows used for the tripe raised without antibiotics and other medications? I'd hate to feed my dog the ugly mixes they use on those huge lots where they aggregate the cows prior to slaughtering them.
Thanks

Francois, I agree with you totally. I get our green tripe from an organic, free-range source. I don't know anything about the one NewNewfMom is talking about though.

Green Tripe and Ham - what a great idea for a book? Sort of sounds familiar though.

Sampson and Delilah they love their green tripe,
Can eat it all day and eat it all night,
But when gases roll in their stomachs at times
You'll run for the hills or risk loosing your lives. LOL

UPS zone: go to https://www.ups.com/media/en/uszones_x.exe
run the program and then "unzip" to a folder on your machine. There are tables for each originating group of ZIP codes (identified by the 3 first digits). Open that table; look for the 3 first digits of your ZIP code in the left most column; the UPS zone for that shipment is in the second column.
Alternative: call them!

I can cut up deer, butcher rabbits, etc, but putting cow stomachs in my pups doggy dish just doesnt sound very appealing

It really doesn't smell - at least the stuff I use. But the way Mary processes it - it is mixed with cow trachea and gullet and chopped all up then smushed (technical word) into these rolls. They are 5 pound rolls each - I buy 120 pounds per month for my two newfs and Bailey (who only gets a burger size each meal) - use two rolls each day. I can't speak for the other suppliers. I know that Mary ships all over the country to breeders and the like. Call her if you have questions. She also has a special mix which includes things like heart, gizzard - stuff like that.
