Fin's Home

He's home but has me so upset. He keeps whimpering and moaning. He has a Fentanyl patch and is on Tramadol, Rimadyl, and Cephalexin. Several people on FB mentioned that their dogs reacted similar with the patch and they settled down once they removed it. If he doesn't settle soon, I'm calling the hospital and will remove it. He's emptying his bladder every 20 minutes, like clockwork. I'm guessing that's from the IV fluids.

He starts PT on the 1st and leash walk only for the next 3 months. UGH!! That's going to be hard for him because that means no running or jumping. The Dr must have said it 10x. He's not limping and is putting full weight on his leg. The meds must be working or the Dr did his job or both. :)

Thank you again for your well wishes. They mean a lot!

Aww poor guy. I hope he settled down for you!

The three months will fly by - trust me. It sounds like so long right now but once it's all over you'll realize it (hopefully) wasn't as bad as you thought it would be. The hardest part with be two months from now when he's feeling frisky and thinks he's able to do whatever he wants!

Thank you! We were up every 2 hours for Fin to empty his bladder. He's whimpering on and off. Fin has always been a talker, so I'm not sure if it's the patch or him just complaining. It's not as bad as it was when we got home. I'll watch him and if it gets worse, I'm pulling the patch. I'll keep you posted...:)

Be careful - my cat had a fentanyl patch after getting some teeth pulled and it was STAPLED ON! Yes, they stapled something to my cat!! He was able to get a corner loose so it was just hanging on him, but it was hanging by a staple so we had to take him back to the vet for them to remove it.

Tramadol has that reaction is some dogs...our Vet says that they will moan horribly at times. Jake didn't react that way thank God. Hopefully it will subside soon...I know that must be very concerning to hear your baby do this...

Hope he heals well. The months do go by quick. Crycket had 6 months of recovery from dual ACL tears. Amazing to see her run now.

He is doing terrific. The patch was almost 1/2 off - he was able to reach it with his back leg and was scratching. We removed it. What if it fell off during the night and he licked it or ate it. Didn't want to take that chance. He's not limping but is having muscle spasms, at least that's what I think they are. All shaved areas are itching him. I've been putting gentaspray on it, which it's also taking the redness away. Still doing the cold compresses 3x a day and the swelling has come down quite a bit. They gave us some exercises that we can start on Thursday. We go back 4/1 for the start of PT and stitch removal.

Thank you everyone!! All the prayers and well wishes are working. :)
