Feet

I went to my first dog show last week. Now I am very confused. There were no Newfs there, so I couldn't really answer my own question by scoping out the feet.

Some breeds of dog there had the hair on their feet trimmed really short all over the foot, and the groomers were busily clipping away.

I picture a newf foot with long hair on it, trimmed around the edges as if hemming a little prom dress. Is this wrong? I've been checking out SAR's grooming page, and it has been very helpful, but after seeing that short-haired foot at the show, I am confused.(I think the dogs were Springer Spaniels....they had a nice long hock, but still short foot hair)

kelly the newf foot should be just like a cat paw.
so they are trimmed accordingly, rounded, and shaped.
you back brush the hair on top, than you trim and shape.
use a thinning shears to start out, than you can go to a straight scissor once you get good at it, or keep with the thinning.

Awww, I'm going to sound soooo DUMB. Does that mean that all of the hairs are cut really short, or no?

Sometimes it feels like I am a couple cans short of a six-pack.

I just thought of something.....Mom doesn't show Jake the Airedale, so I am going to PRACTICE on him.....BWAAAA HAHAHA

He ends up getting shaved every summer, so it can't be too bad. Hehehehe.

What you need to understand is that different breeds trim the feet differently. What springers feet look like are different from a newfs and different from a Airedale or schipperke. Their basic foot shapes maybe different too.
