Exuberant greetings

Annie is convinced that every person we see would just love a big newfie kiss. She doesn't jump up, but she pushes and pulls right up to people, including some passers-by who would just as soon not get "newfed" by a big drooly dog. I've started petting her only when she sits, and having her sit whenever someone approaches us on our walks, but she still tries to pull and go greet them. I'll talk to the trainer in her obedience class next week, but if anyone has good tips for teaching a polite hello, I'd be more than happy to try them! Thanks!

Inlist in the help of friends, and strangers

Set up something with friends, where they'll be walking towards you. Have them armed with treats. Have them tell her to sit, if she does not, have them turn their back to her.
When she sits nicely, she gets a treat and pets. You can do this with strangers too, just ask them

Consistancy is the key!
