excessive panting

We're travelling currently for the holidays and our female, Matilda, seems to be panting rather excessively. Her water intake may be a hair higher than normal but bowel movements are ok. Could it just be the excitement of travelling (three different homes in three days)?

Hi Shifty
i would venture to guess that all of these things can add stress to her normal quiet life?
Many different people, travel, different homes, different smells, are there kids in the picture? added kids?
this makes for a lot of stress, there are different kinds of stress, and this probably not bad, but she is probably a bit out of sorts.
i would keep an eye on her.
if she would get loose stool a bit of yogurt will help, that usually follows stress stituations.

good luck and have fun.

Sounds like stress to me!!! One thing I like to do is to carry water from home. It can prevent loose bowels... specially if you're staying in a hotel/motel, where the water may be heavily chlorinated.

If you don't have room and can't take alot of water with you, try bottled water. There are walmarts everywhere, and their prices are pretty good.

Do you use a crate? If so, and you've brought it with you, you might think about covering it, and letting her have a place that's quiet, where she'll feel secure.

Kira will drive us INSANE by roaming our hotel room at night. We used a crate last time, and she was happy as a clam.

A classic case of stress. Give her plently of water. If her stool gets loose try a bland diet of hamburger, rice, cottage cheese, potatoes... Maloxx or pepto bismal can settle the stomach is her stool gets loose. Also stressed dogs can get blood in the stool, really nothing to worry about unless there is an excessive amount
