Ese's Sire

Okay, if you've seen the pic in the Photos forum of Pugsley here is my comment and question: He's wet and it's the end of October after a very warm summer but...does his coat seem a bit 'short' for a newfie? I have a copy of his lineage. It's impressive. Also, he has a lot of Landseer in his back ground. Yet, it struck me then that his coat is soooo flat and somewhat short. Ese looks just like his dad so far. I know all Newfs look a little different, but does anything about this strike you guys as odd?

Just curious. You all seem to know so much.

why dont you post the link to see him, and his pedigree?
some newfs you might be comparing him to are dripping with coat, making the long coat look longer than the Normal coat.

I don't know much, but I've seen positively l-o-o-o-ng coats and I've seen those that are less so. I came across a male Newfie at the beach who has hair that was totall hanging down, right off the underneath of his stomach for inches and inches whereas most I've seen aren't that long.

Some of them looks to be 'fluffier' and others 'flatter'. Rory is somewhat in between. I personally like the fluffed up look myself.

I wonder if grooming styles contribute to this at all?

Misha belongs to the ones with more flat coat. On her back her hair looks just like Ese's dad's. But her hair on her legs and hips is defenitelly longer. Are you sure he wasn't shaved or trimed not so long before the picture was taken?

Anyway I loved Misha's look aboult half a year ago when her coat look like a bears coat. But now she's got her adult coat and I don't like the long hair that hangs down her hips and legs. I guess there's nothing else to do but to grab scissors and start with cutting.

Mirjam & Misha (thinking: all the stupid ideas you get - my coat looks just fine, thank you, I really don't need you to mess around me with those scissors any more than you already do!)

You know...duh!...come to think of it I think the breeder did mention that Pugsley was trimmed! I'll have to call and ask for sure.

Anyway, thanks for the responses!
