Cousteau is now about 5 months old.He weighs 48lbs and we feed him science diet large breed puppy dry food.his servings are 1 1/2 cup three times a day.Sometimes supplemented with some tuna, salmon or veggies. How does his weight compare to your pups? at his age? Also he eats way too fast finishing his meals in less than 1 minute.Does anyone have this problem? Im really worried about bloat.

My pup just turned 6 mo. on the 20th. She was weighed at 5 mo. at 55 lbs. She eats fast also, all my dogs do. It seems like he is getting frequent feedings, and since I understand that bloat comes on more from gulping food on an empty stomach, you probably are OK. By the way, I love his name.

It is normal for pups to eat fast,i would be most concerned becouse you are feeding a brand of food known to swell up huge, and gulpers that dont chew are at higher risk for bloat.
i wouldnt panic, but i would do the water test with your kibble, take hot tap water, soak a few kibble pieces in it for about 35 minutes. see how much swelling you get. not good, shows that it is difficult to digest.

My bear gobbles everything he can, his, mine, ours .... at one week shy of five months he weighed in at 55 lbs. So your baby is doing great.

Hi Jake just turned 5 months and he is somewhere between 70-80lbs, he doesn't gobble his food down though, unless of course there is something in there as a treat that I have added

My Molly was closer to the size of Jake at 5 months. She was 60 to 70 pounds. Neither of these pups were chubby.

Really, you don't want to feed your newf pup a puppy food. Check out the previous posts about this topic.

Thanks everyone for your input.Today Ive decided to change Cousteau's food to bil-jac select.I performed the water test as sarnewfie suggested ,boy was I suprised!the kibble expanded at least three times it original size.I also did the same test with bil-jac,after the same length of time the bil-jac broke down to a powdery consistancy. Maybe that is why Cousteau is gassy and seems uncomfortable a few hours after eating.I'll mix the bil-jac 50/50 with his current food for a week or so,before changing completly.

thanks again everyone

I had Jake on the Bil-Jac until recently, it is very high in the protein and fat content I have changed him over to the Wellness Super 5 Mix which is much lower plus Jake seems to love it! Thanks Mollysmom for the info on that by the way.

Gracie went to the vet's today. She weighed in at 62 pounds at 15 weeks. I was really surprised, I expected it to be less. She has been more petite than the other pups here since day one. Oh well, guess she's hiding the extra weight somewhere. ;)

Brady weighed 94 pounds at his last visit, he was 7 months old. He is quite tall, he actually looks skinny when he is wet. He also tends to gobble at times, depending on what is in the bowl.
