Draft Test

Well we spent the weekend at the SCNC Draft test. It was not a good weekend. I was trying for the Team Draft Dog title. First Sara, yes Sara, our 11 1/2 year old that would not hardly do a recall her at home, came running to me during the recall dragging Panda behind her. Usually Panda has to pull Sara. Well, Sara didn't stop, she ran right out of the ring to daddy. Immediate NQ. (Last year all over again only a different newf) Then we get to the manueverin course and she refuses to listen. She got her old lady refuse to listen attitude. Usually Sara is so slow that Panda has to practically drag her. Well Sara drug Panda everywhere except where I wanted them to go. Sara refused to turn either direction. I felt like a complete fool. You would think I had never worked them together as a team before. Oh well one of those days. I tell you what, Sara showed me she is not as hurting and feeble as she wants me to think she is. That old girl has me wrapped around her little paws. Oh well she is old and I guess she can be like that if she wants.

Sam did wonderful for Gary till we got to the long freight haul. Sam likes to be the lead dog in whatever we are doing and Gary took her in 2nd place instead of 1st. She is so bullheaded and kept trying to get in front that she bumped the cart in front of her. NQ !!!! Oh well, now we can try at nationals next year.

I did however learn a lot. Got lots of good training tips from the judges and one of the qualifiers. So we will practice, practice, practice......

It does sound like you could have had a better day, but hopefully the next one will go smoother. I know how you feel about Sara, since my feeble old guy that limps around on 3 legs most of the time, becomes a different animal when he races across the backyard after a bunny or squirrel. I guess that's what they live for - those few frisky moments.

Oooooh, that's too bad that you didn't pass. However, having worried all about Sara last week I am so glad that she had such a good time :D It's pretty awesome that one can even think about entering an 11 1/2 year old Newf in a draft test

So long as everyone had a good time, that's what counts, right

As the saying goes...third times a charm! ;) Next year is sure to be a success!

Thanks for sharing too. I'm going to my first draft test next weekend as a spectator, so I now have a better idea on what goes on. I'm sure it'll be alot of fun.

too bad on the draft test but, Maybe next time. Seams like this was the weekend for draft testing.
Seattle Newf club had theirs. Boagie and I went and watched. I have to say it showed me how far I have to go with Boagie in regards to just basic obedience, but I now feel inspired.
I also got to meet some local newf people and was able to ask breeders about her size? is she too big for 5 months? and about diet. I found out there is butcher in Seattle who raises huskys he is into a diet with raw meat and mixes up concontions for dog folks all over the area. The breeder I was talking to buys 300lbs at a time....
So if nothing else it was very educational and I got to meet some nice people.
