Does your Newf do this?

When I am working at my desk Sadie likes to come by and rest her paw on my extended arm while she sits. It's like she is the queen and I am expected to kiss her hand. LOL She will switch paws to stay that way longer. I think she just likes holding hands.

She's also telling you she wants you to stop what you're doing and pay attention to her, but she's being very polite about it.

Piper just stands behind me when I'm at my desk, with a toy in her mouth. I don't even have to see her...I FEEL her presence. It's very effective and I stop what I'm doing to pay attention to her. She has me perfectly trained. LOL!

Buddy will come up, give my arm/ribcage a single very solid *POKE*, if I'm a little too delayed responding to that.... then I get the paw on my arm ... as if to say... "Excuse me, but I'm talking to you here."

I just read somewhere that this is a sign of affection. I can't remember where I read it, or whether it is from a reputable source. But out first dog, Chinook (nn), did this when we were petting him.

I think you are absolutely right. When Sadie wants to play she is very clear about it. She brings a toy and pushes it into my hand but doesn't let go. We have a game we play where I make my hands look like the evil claw. I even say, "Oh no, it's the claaaaawwwww". She immediately growls and starts kinking her front paw at it. I act demented and we both go into character. It's so fun because it's our thing.

We get either slapped with a paw (to which the response is "Not a fish!") or get a nose flip! They definitely want our attention!

Gracie puts her paw on my arm when she wants me to pet her...I'll pat, then stop...and the paw comes back again, over and over....

Vin does this with Zeke....accept he says it's a spider....and it's just their interaction and I always love it.

Aw, glad to hear this is a sign of affection. We just chalked it up to being spoiled. haa haa. Mags will come sit in front of me and tap me with the paw, or want to hold hands/paw. When you start to pet her, she will use that big ol mit to pull your hand to where she WANTS to be pet. I just love it. One of my many favorite things about her.
