I'm new to conformation and just got back from the National. Could someone explain to me the difference between the AKC Select, Select and AOM? THANKS!

Sue Lynn asked Ingrid Lyden about how it all works so we would know for Journey and what points she may have earned and this is how she explained it.

Selects/AOMs only give you points toward Top 20 if it is in a Regional Specialty or the National. Let's say there were 151 bitches who showed. Take one off for OS and then divide the 150 by the number of bitch selects. So if there were 5 Select Bitches, that would give each Select 30 points toward the Top 20. They do not differentiate points between the Selects.

AKC Select just means they would get 5 points toward a Grand Championship. It does not affect anything with NCA.

It is all rather confusing.

Does that help? Maybe somebody else with more experience can explain it better.

I think Selects are given by AKC and AOM by the club putting on the show (not all shows offer AOM). The amount of selects/AOM the judge is able to give out depends on how many dogs are entered.
