Dental work

Annabelle needs her teeth cleaned and is going this Friday. What concerns me is that the vet says she may need an extraction (or two) on rear teeth. Has anyone had this done with their Newf and how did it affect their eating afterwards? Thanks.

We had it done with our old boy Dexter when he was 11. The anesthesia wore him out for a whole day, no eating...after that it didn't bother him at all...soft food for a couple days and that was all.

Snuffles had it a little after a year ago. I fed him Honest Kitchen Embark for a couple of days. I had it on hand anyway to make a gravy for his normal meals. The anesthesia was the worst. He was OUT! I could not get him out of the van. He just laid there. Glad it was cold. He was comfy. Had to get someone to help me carry him in. He laid in the living room from about 6:30 PM to midnight, with no interest in anything. He was about 10 1/2 when this happened.

Maggie didn't have an extraction for tooth problems, but lost several of her front teeth because of her melanoma. Even with part of her jaw missing she did fine! So not the same location, but the surgeon said that even pups who lose back teeth don't usually have any issues.

I have never had my dogs teeth cleaned....We are the RAW and bone feeders I always get told how good my seniors teeth are at nearly 9x2 and 10

Thanks, everyone. Happily, no extractions were necessary and my wallet was grateful too.
She was like a drunken sailor later on, but next morning back to full speed and hearty appetite again.

Have had this done on previous Newfs with no ill effects... But, then again, Zeus was missing about 1/3 of his teeth when I got him anyway...
